The latest release of the popular "Mobile Fidelity" CD reissue series has been confirmed. Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab (MFSL), a manufacturer specializing in analog masters, is a trusted brand that is supported by audiophiles around the world. With the utmost passion, sound masters have digitized many of the greatest albums from master tapes. Among the series, this work includes the CD "UDCD 2-550" released in 1991. It is THE WHO's supreme rock opera masterpiece "Quadrophenia". [Mobile Fidelity places the utmost importance on master tape sound] In the 1990s, when the conversion of analog works to CDs was at its peak, many high-quality CDs appeared, but MFSL was in a class of its own. Other high-quality CDs are based on the idea of "suppressing digital degradation" by using new technology to reduce the discomfort of compression or reduce reading errors with the material. In contrast, MFSL's policy is to "faithfully reproduce the sound engraved on the master tape and not add anything extra." They have developed their own "half-speed mastering" technology that focuses on the stage of extracting sound from magnetic tape, placing the utmost importance on "the analog recorded sound itself". Since 1987, MFSL has borrowed original master tapes from record companies and meticulously digitized many masterpieces one by one. They released the "Ultradisc" series, which transfers the sound of the master tape to CD. Currently, they are also expanding into the fields of SACD and LP, but the point is that this work was made into a CD in the early 1990s. Magnetic tape masters are vulnerable to deterioration over time, and the more time passes, the more the sound at the time of recording is lost. There are cases where the tape is distorted or stuck, but even if it is stored carefully, it cannot prevent the loss of magnetism. Nowadays, it is becoming the case that LPs recorded with physical grooves sound better than the master tape itself. In that respect, the "Ultradisc" series was a great achievement. It started in the 1980s when CDs were in widespread use, and the sound of the master tape was digitally recorded before the arrival of the new technology CD, which boasted high sound quality. [Quadrophenia, where the world view is realistic because even the fine details are clear] This work's "Quadrophenia" conveys the master sound "18 years after recording". In any case, the freshness of the master is eye-opening. The 90s may seem recent, but it's already more than 30 years ago. Even if you try to transfer it now, the master tape has been through the test of time for about 50 years, and the freshness of this work (10991) cannot be restored. In fact, the freshness is overwhelming, as if real drum skins and guitar strings were moving in the speakers. It is even more impressive when listening with headphones, and not only the sound of the performance but also the subtleties of each SE are super clear. The opening song "I Am The Sea" has such a realistic sound that you can see every droplet of water in your eyes, and even though it's a 2ch mix, it feels like you're "there" as if it were surround sound. And there's no sense of artificiality. It's obviously a different thing compared to the remix version, but the artificial echo and over-dramatized dramatism don't feel right. This work has the balance of the original version itself, but the three-dimensional effect is reproduced only by the resolution of the high-precision transfer. Because it's not a performance, but a real sense of space, the aim of each instrument stands out clearly. And because it's "Quadrophenia", it's even more vivid. Not only does it fully introduce synths, but it's a rock opera that is full of various instruments, so each sound that flies freely builds up a "world". What flows out of this work is a sound world that is exactly as intended by the production, not processed by the "quadrophenia-ness" or "THE WHO should be like this" that engineers imagined in later years. It's a world that permeates your entire body, yet you can immerse yourself in it with such vividness that it's like buying a new pair of glasses with the right prescription. The master sound of this great masterpiece has been preserved to this day thanks to the CD by Mobile Fidelity. Even if you try to get the actual thing now, it's difficult because it was originally produced in limited quantities. This release is to allow as many people as possible to experience this beautiful sound. The high-quality CD label Mobile Fidelity has released "Quadrophenia." Because it was transferred early on, the master is fresh before it deteriorates over time. You can enjoy this masterpiece of rock opera with natural sound.
