Originally, The Who in 1974 should have continued their tour to promote their album "QUADROPHENIA" released the previous year, but it ended after a tour of Europe in February, and instead they moved on to the production of the movie version of "TOMMY". As a result, their live activities that year were very few, but in June, they booked four shows at Madison Square Garden, as if to vent their frustrations from being stuck in a movie studio. Among them, "MSG 1974" is a masterpiece that captures the June 11th event with a very wonderful stereo audience recording. For the reasons mentioned above, The Who in 1974 had few live shows, and there were also few live recordings and items. Until then, the only option was Charlton in May (which also awaits the release of a new improved version), and "MSG 1974" was a new recording that boasted surprisingly high sound quality. More than 10 years have passed since the release of this work, which was highly praised by enthusiasts as an audience album with very clear sound quality recorded in stereo at a time when sound sources were already limited. On the contrary, it has become a difficult record to obtain now, and many people, even those who are not enthusiasts, have been calling for a reissue of the precious 1974 live masterpiece. This is especially true after more than 10 years since its release. This sound source should have been released last year, the 50th anniversary of the live performance, but it was delayed to this year because a different recording audience from the same day was now available. In fact, the 2011 release was by the famous "GRAF ZEPPELIN", and of course this time too, the masterpiece has been revived for the first time in a long time under his supervision. The release in 2011 was also highly praised for the reasons mentioned above, but this time, the complete recording of "Won't Get Fooled Again" has been realized for the first time by the discovery of another sound source! The cut that occurs around the 6 and a half minute mark of the song was literally painful, so it is great that it has finally been filled in. The sound source used for this compensation was a mono recording, but GRAF ZEPPELIN achieved a wonderful transition with almost no sense of incongruity with the main stereo audience. This is his true colors. The 1974 audience album, which already boasts outstanding quality, can now be listened to to the end with peace of mind. And the content of the live performance itself is extremely interesting. The composition is no longer one that promotes "QUADROPHENIA", and the set list is filled with old classics from the album in moderation, which is unique to this time of year. At Charlton in May, there were signs of insufficient rehearsal in some of the old repertoire, but here the instincts have returned, and the usual intense The Who shines throughout the whole work. And yet it is really interesting that the "QUADROPHENIA" part suddenly starts with "Bell Boy". In the US, the cheers for "Pinball Wizard" and "See Me Feel Me" were tremendous, as "TOMMY" had made a big break (the footage captures this with an exquisite balance), but the fact that the concert ended with the two songs from "QUADROPHENIA" shows the determination of the band, led by Pete at the time. The Who's 1974 live recordings, which are already limited in quality and quantity, have revived the masterpiece Stereo Audience, which is rich in both sound quality and content, under the thorough supervision of "GRAF ZEPPELIN" as with the previous release. On the contrary, after so many years have passed, there may be more people who don't know the previous album "MSG 1974" or the original sound source itself, which has such attractive clear sound quality. One of the best live recordings from 1974 that can be confidently recommended to all enthusiasts has finally been revived! The main source is the same excellent stereo Aud sound source as the previous version, but luckily there is another sound source from this day, albeit in mono, and the missing part of "Won't Get" was filled in with that other sound source, realizing a complete recording of all the songs!
