The highlight of the fall 1969 US tour was the six consecutive nights (Pete's autobiography states seven consecutive nights, but this is a mistake) performance at the Fillmore East in late October. This was a series of performances that were held in response to the huge success of "TOMMY," and was naturally recorded by Bob Pridden. However, as mentioned in the Stony Brook School release released at the same time, Pete's whim led to the soundboard reel containing the footage being burned. The only performance that escaped the disaster from the series of performances at the Fillmore was the performance on October 22nd. This was also an incomplete recording, but the sound quality of the stereo soundboard was impeccable. It is still fresh in our memory that the Who's Fillmore appearances in recent years have unearthed historical recordings such as "FILLMORE WEST 1968 3RD NIGHT" and "FILLMORE WEST 1969 2ND NIGHT", but it is really important that the Fillmore in the fall was left with such a stunning stereo soundboard, even though it was incomplete, and the quality is so impressive that it could be officially released as it is. The soundboard from this day was also recorded in the nostalgic KTS series "ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTE" and "WINTERTIME TRIP" mentioned in the commentary on Stony Brook, but "Prof. Stoned" was adjusted tightly. However, even he was not able to attack the pitch correction, and the pitch remained slow after "We're Not Gonna Take It". In that regard, we adjusted it again to be in perfect condition for this CD. This day was also recorded with the intention of releasing an official live album, and the stereo sound board has a truly wonderful sound quality. It is a pity to think that the remaining days were originally recorded with this quality (it's not fair to burn it anyway...). That's why I feel grateful that the reel survived for even just one day. Also, the fact that the first half of the "TOMMY" part is recorded longer than Stony Brook is a big point. The reason is that the consecutive Fillmore performances in October were advertised as "TOMMY" performances on posters, and it became such a big event that it was called "TOMMY" week. Rather, it was a period that symbolized the "TOMMY" mode in 1969. Despite this, no audience recordings have been excavated from these consecutive Fillmore performances. In such a situation, the stereo sound board was left behind for just one performance. More important than such preciousness and the wonderful sound quality is the explosion of the performance. In particular, the performance of the "TOMMY" part "Sparks" is a word that is intense. The spectacular development of the song, which surpasses even the famous performance at Woodstock, is so amazing that it will leave you speechless, and it's also nice that there are no cuts in the recording, unlike the same song at Stony Brook. As mentioned earlier, the recordings after "We're Not Gonna Take It," which were recorded with the pitch adjusted this time, are said to have been recorded on a different day at the same Fillmore (although it was too short to determine the date and time), but the performance of "Shakin' All Over," which concludes this part, is so spectacular that it makes you wonder if it will surpass the official "LIVE AT LEEDS" album. And yet the sound quality is perfect. In the first place, "LIVE AT LEEDS" itself was originally released on a single LP, and even if the recording time fits on a single CD this time, it's better to listen to it quickly. Along with the simultaneously released Stony Brook, this is also a stereo soundboard that beautifully condenses the climax of the Who in the fall of 1969.
