The Who's 1973 US tour, known as the "FALLOUT SHELTER" tour, produced a by-product in the form of stereo soundboard recordings for radio broadcast. These recordings were made to be broadcast on the then-emerging American live broadcast program "KING BISCUIT FLOWER HOUR." In 1973, the US had just begun broadcasting rock concerts on television, and radio was a much more influential source of influence. Broadcasting live performances over the airwaves was considered to be a great way to promote records. The group recorded live performances on a multitrack recorder at two shows on the "FALLOUT SHELTER" tour, and provided them to KBFH, as they were to promote the double album "QUADROPHENIA," which Pete had created after many twists and turns as a masterpiece that surpassed "TOMMY." The Philadelphia and Largo performances on December 4th and 6th established an unshakable position as standard recordings for the tour. Both have become classics because they have extremely excellent sound quality and contain the best live performances. Both are completely official class stereo soundboard recordings, and in addition, they have been spread throughout the United States through radio, which has led to the creation of many items since the analog LP era. First, the sound source recorded at the Philadelphia Spectrum on December 4th, which spread among fans in an instant after the release of the TMOQ label's LP "TALES FROM THE WHO" with a luxurious color jacket and color vinyl, but because of the high sound quality, a large number of copies of "TALES FROM~" were also produced. Ironically, it cannot be denied that the flood of copies also played a major role in spreading the Philadelphia performance to fans. The impact of "TALES FROM~" was so great that a phenomenon occurred in which items using the same title and the same artwork were overflowing on CD. Rather, if Philadelphia in 1973 was released under the name "TALES FROM~", everything was okay. For fans, it had become a title of security and trust. Later, the CD-like version upgrade included uncut interviews with each member that were broadcast between programs. However, radio broadcasts at that time did not consider broadcasting the show in its entirety from the beginning (it was impossible given the time frame of the program), and naturally all items were incomplete live recordings because they were based on broadcasts. However, a shocking discovery that instantly buried the classic "TALES FROM THE WHO" occurred on the Internet ten years ago. A site called "WOLFGANG'S VAULT" suddenly released broadcast recordings and footage that existed under the rights of Bill Graham, who was a driving force behind rock concerts in the United States in the 1970s. Thanks to what could be called the Wolfgang Bubble, the complete stereo soundboard recordings of the two classic performances of The Who's 1973 tour were finally unearthed. What's more, the Philadelphia performance that we had been listening to so much on "TALES FROM~" was completely heard. Following this discovery, the first release from our store was "SPECTRUM 1973" in 2007. This was such a big bestseller that it was reissued the following year. Nevertheless, in response to the never-ending requests for reissue, the remastered version of "PHILADELPHIA 1973" featuring the "FALLOUT SHELTER" tour poster appeared three times in 2015. However, this also sold out in the blink of an eye. Philadelphia is no longer selling out no matter how many times it is released. This is the fourth release, but the sound quality has already been improved in "PHILADELPHIA 1973", and this time it is limited to just increasing the volume level. And when the complete version appears, "Love, Reign O'er Me", which was thought to have been cut during the broadcast during the "TALES FROM THE WHO" era, is not here either. There was controversy over whether it was actually performed or not recorded, but it was discovered that it was not performed after all. It is obvious if you listen to "Doctor Jimmy". Roger's throat was not in good condition, and he was not in a position to sing "Love, Reign O'er Me," which requires a hard shout. So he omitted the song and moved to "Won't Get Fooled Again," which also requires a shout. Despite such an incident, the performance of Philadelphia in 1973, which covers everything with momentum, is truly exceptional. This is the fourth release that will surely become a standard again!
