Among the many live recordings of The Who in 1969, the one that has been eagerly awaited to be reissued and upgraded is the Fillmore West on June 19th. On this day, there is a recording that boasts the highest quality as a 1969 audience recording, and in 1996, a paper jacket CD called "FLYING TO NEW YORK TO GO TO COURT" was released by the nostalgic label. There are probably many enthusiasts who were blown away by the greatness of this recording with the same title. After all, the recording state is so close to the sound image that you would doubt your ears and ask, "Is this the 1969 Aud?" What's more, it was a worthy masterpiece in that it captured the historical scene and famous performance of The Who's live performance, which had just entered its climax, and the performance of "TOMMY" at the historic venue, the Fillmore, with excellent sound quality. However, it is true that this was a vintage audience release in the mid-90s, and while the sound is very close, there is a wow and flutter state, hiss noise, and low pitch that seem to have been amplified through the cassette dubbing trade. The sound quality that seemed great when "FLYING TO~" was released in 1996 has become rough over time. If you are a fanatic, you may have felt that "FLYING TO~" was great, but the original sound source had better sound quality. In fact, the master tape of this sound source no longer exists, but fortunately a 1st gen. copy from the master exists. This was based on the version that was dubbed and circulated during the cassette trading era, the "FLYING TO~" paper jacket CD. In that respect, the 1st gen. copy file is in incomparably better condition than the original version, and above all, the sound quality is even better. Based on this best copy, "GRAF ZEPPELIN" has begun the upgrade version that Who maniacs around the world have been waiting for. Moreover, the subject of this issue is the vintage audience, which is his specialty. The 1st gen. copy was in much better condition than the previously released paper jacket version mentioned above, but the wow-flash condition that was still found here and there was thoroughly adjusted. In addition, the reduction in hiss noise was achieved because it was a 1st gen. copy... the pitch is accurate and the upgraded feeling is on a whole different level. To tell the truth, the original recording was like a vintage audience, with a swell of sound at the end of "Magic Bus," which the previously released version concealed by cutting it. This part seems to have been unbearable to listen to on the old-generation copy at the time, and the cut seems to have been a reasonable decision. This part was also recorded uncut this time, and at the same time, it is only possible to hear it, even if it is rough, which is unique to the 1st gen. copy. And as a bonus, the existing sound source from the 17th is recorded for the first time. This was credited as the 18th, but with the appearance of "FILLMORE WEST 1969 2ND NIGHT", which was genuinely recorded on the 18th, it was corrected to the 17th. This audience recording is not as good as the 19th, but it was thoroughly restored by "GRAF ZEPPELIN". It was recorded in a much easier-to-listen-to state, and "Eyesight To The Blind" sounds wilder than the next day. Even so, the main 19th recording is amazing. With the roughness, mainly hiss noise, wiped out, the audience, whose sound image is already intense, approaches so close that it could be mistaken for a sound board. It's also a famous story, but this day was one of the performances where Pete had a sound board recorded but burned it, so it was really fortunate that there was an Aud with a very close sound image on that day. The best part is the Who's performance throughout the whole show. Even so, there are some incomplete parts in the arrangement of "Youngman Blues" and other songs, and it is rather amusing that they do not reach the level of completion of Leeds. On the other hand, it is also unique to this period that John's "Boris The Spider", which disappeared from the live repertoire for a while, is still being played. And the energetic performance of the "TOMMY" part... the joy of hearing these with a superb audience. The most important sound source that captured The Who before Woodstock in the best sound quality has finally been upgraded by "GRAF ZEPPELIN". It is the revival of a famous audience that is just like a sound board! The 2nd Night of '69 Fillmore West was released a few years ago, but this is the final day. It is a live performance that was released on the nostalgic Fire Power in the '90s, but the sound quality has improved by a lot! ! According to the file memo, it is said to be a sound source from multiple 1st Gen (Amazing Journey is assumed to be a sound source from a different route), and the master seems to have already been lost, so we cannot expect any more sound sources in the future. The wow and flutter that was in the original recording has been largely eliminated, and it is clearly clearer and easier to listen to than the previous releases! There are some parts where the sound swells (especially Magic Bus), but this was the same in the past releases, or the corresponding parts were significantly cut (see the track list below). The second half of Disc 2 includes a bonus excerpt of Tommy's part from the Fillmore West performance on the first day, June 17th! Originally, this recording had been circulating for a long time as the 18th performance, but with the recent appearance of the real 18th performance, it was transferred to the 17th and counted. The sound is decent and quite swishy, but the phase shift has been corrected and the swishy feeling has been largely eliminated. The sound fluctuations and wow and flutter that were in the original recording have been corrected so much that it's hard to believe they were bonuses! It's unlikely that this will be released on CD in the future! Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, USA 19th June 1969 TRULY PERFECT SOUND UPGRADE!!! Disc 1 (63:12) 01. Introduction 02.
