David Coverdale, John Sykes, Cozy Powell, Neil Murray... WHITESNAKE in 1984, the strongest quartet in history. The most important pro shots are reprinted on 3 DVDs. The most important work is "August 11 + 12, 1984: Seibu Lions Baseball Stadium Performance". It is a multi-camera pro shot of participating in "Super Rock '84", a huge event in the history of Japanese Western music, which was realized 35 years ago. This festival was a symbol of the era. The 1983 US festival announced the golden age of HR/HM worldwide, but in Japan it was definitely "Super Rock '84". Moreover, it was not simply an import of an overseas festival, but was firmly led by Japan. MSG and WHITESNAKE served as double headliners, accompanied by ANVIL, which was later made into a movie, BON JOVI in his youth, and SCORPIONS, who made a big break. A few years later, BON JOVI would have been the big finalist, and in the same year, SCORPIONS would have been the big finalist in other countries, but this was a direct reflection of the popularity of Japan in 1984. It was a symbol of the golden age of HR/HM in Japan. Not only did the festival travel across the archipelago in the form of a tour, but it also had a solo performance at WHITESNAKE. Let's look back at the schedule at that time for the sake of record. August 4th: Nagoya Baseball Stadium August 6th: Fukuoka Sports Center August 8th: Nanko Ferry Terminal Square August 9th: Nanko Ferry Terminal Square August 11th: Seibu Baseball Stadium [Disc 1 & 3 of this work] August 12th: Seibu Baseball Stadium [Disc 2 of this work] August 15th: Miyagi Prefectural Civic Center (Solo performance) August 16th: Hokkaido Welfare Pension Hall (Solo performance) The last two performances were solo, but the Seibu Lions Baseball Stadium performance in this work is the highlight of the festival tour that took place just before that. This work is a three-disc set that permanently preserves three types of multi-camera professional shots born from these two performances with the highest quality. Let's introduce each one. [Disc 1: Complete professional shot of August 11th (night)] First of all, the first day of Seibu Stadium 2DAYS, "August 11th". This show has also been officially released, but this work is a leaked master that is the production process. Unlike the official version with many cuts, it is a complete professional shot that allows you to enjoy the full show seamlessly. This complete version was first released in the masterpiece "KINGS OF THE NIGHT". Its appearance was a real shock. Not only can you see the official unrecorded "Walking In The Shadow Of The Blues" and "We Wish You Well", but the head and second half of "Gambler", "Guilty Of Love", "Don't Break My Heart Again", which were cut off to insert an interview, and Cozy's drum solo are also in full form. On the contrary, it was a full stage that even recorded a sound check before the show started. The impact of the work became a legend at the same time as it was excavated, but this work is the highest peak version that surpasses even the Langley version. Although the details of the gene are unknown, this work was directly digitized from the PAL beta master (the so-called "Cozy Tapes" collection) owned by Cozy. If you are familiar with the Langley version, you may remember that the first appearance master was covered with an unnatural date caption, but this work is the original version without that and the credits hidden in the foundation are also vivid. Of course, the caption is only a proof of the Cozy tape, and what is even more wonderful is the visual beauty and sound. The quality has become much more beautiful, and the visibility and stability have been improved. Although it does not reach the official version, it has definitely updated the "highest peak of the complete version". The show depicted with that visual beauty is the "peak of the Sykes & Cozy era" that the whole world wants. Although there are several sound board recordings left from Sykes' time in the company, most of them are pre-shows and are very short shows. Although this work is also a festival appearance, it is long only for the big final. In fact, Japan is the only country in the world where Cozy's drum solo was performed with four people, and this work allows you to experience its full scale with a multi-camera pro shot. The drum solo is also a version themed on "Mars, The Bringer Of War", and it is the only show that can be seen with a multi-camera (there is one more performance pro shot left, but that is one camera). It is a complete video that reaches the pinnacle both in terms of the band and Cozy personally. [Disc 2: Complete pro shot of August 12th (afternoon)] Following such a first day performance is the complete pro shot of the second day of Seibu Stadium, "August 12th". Although it is a video excavated as "KINGS OF THE DAY" at the same time as the first day, it is an upgraded version that was digitized directly from the "Cozy Tapes" collection, just like Disc 1. And the impact exceeds Disc 1. After all, unlike the first day, there was no official release on the second day. It's not "There are a lot of those songs" or "You can also see this scene", but all the songs and all the scenes are different from the official version, and every second is a multi-camera pro shot that penetrates the full show with a series of surprises. Moreover, it's not just a different performance. "Super Rock '84" had WHITESNAKE and MSG changing headliners on a daily basis, but the tori of this day was MSG. Therefore, although there is no drum solo by Cozy, the scene itself is even fresher than that. Because of the early appearance, the sun is high and you can see every corner of the stage well. It is literally a video of the four strongest people being "exposed in the daylight". Coverdale, illuminated by the sunlight, explodes with a macho and healthy tension, and the Japanese MCs "Ogenkidesuka" and "Minnagenki!?" are also flying away in great shape. Speaking of pro shots from the Sykes era, ROCK IN RIO in 1985 is also famous, but Coverdale's voice is rough and Cozy has decided to leave, and it's brutal. In contrast, this work has an excellent ensemble that is integrated with the lustrous singing voice. Sykes gives us a sense of the honeymoon. Unlike the aristocratic appearance on the first day, Sykes is wearing a certain mouse character (fake?) T-shirt, and is going wild with the innocence of a 25-year-old who has just turned 25. Moreover, this T-shirt was also worn by Cozy and Coverdale (you can see it in the off-scene of the official pro shot). I don't know if they bought it together or wore it together, but it's a good relationship that I can't imagine now. And Neil is also a point on the second day. The bass is mixed larger than on the first day, and you can enjoy plenty of elegant lines. Even more vivid than the performance is "Japan in 1984". The audience seats on the first day were hidden by the dark night, but this one is clear to every corner. This is already a great spectacle. Not only can you see the excitement in the front seats, but the facial expressions of each member are also against the backdrop of a crowd of people in the far-away stands. When it comes to footage of Japanese performances, it is inevitable that there will be a lot of indoor and dark scenes, but this footage has an unmistakable stadium-class gigantic scale that fills the screen. It is also a historical pro shot that directly blows out the heat of HR/HM that exploded in 1984. [Disc 3: Official pro shot on August 11th (night)] The last disc 3 is a bonus. It is a precise digitization of the Japanese version laser disc that was officially released at the time. Of course, it was officially released on DVD as "LIVE IN '84: BACK TO THE BONE" in 2014, but this work was raised before that and was praised as the "definitive edition of the laser disc version". In fact, it is surprising that the visual beauty and sound are as good as the official DVD. The official DVD was also digitized from the master tape (although it was edited), but the laser disc version, which should be one generation lower, is not inferior at all. This is probably due to the preservation properties of the laser disc. Laser discs are more resistant to aging than magnetically recorded tapes, and this work was raised from that mint version. Its freshness is overwhelming, and the colors are more natural than the flashy official DVD, and the interview scenes, which were somehow processed in black and white, are now in full color. Therefore, even now that it has been made official, it is still said among overseas enthusiasts that "laser discs are a more accurate depiction of 35 years ago," and it has even become an opportunity for other artists to reconsider laser discs. This work permanently preserves the highest version. WHITESNAKE's commercial peak was after 1987, but it was definitely 1984 when they reached the peak as a band. This is a three-disc set of pro shots that allows you to enjoy the peak show with the highest quality. Although this is the version that was introduced on the 30th anniversary five years ago, it was sold out and discontinued in an instant because of its greatness. However, this work is the apex work that is unique in the history of the glory of the white snake. It is a loss of rock culture that it is not available. It should not happen. A huge masterpiece that has been revived again on the 35th anniversary.
