The third installment of the popular Japanese broadcast studio live compilation series is here. This time, we have randomly recorded a large number of precious studio performance videos from 1982 to 1985, when Western music was at its most glamorous, from the original video masters, recorded in very good quality. The image quality is surprisingly good for an air check from that era, with no tracking noise, and like the previous work, the high-quality footage is satisfactory even for picky enthusiasts. The first song is the nostalgic Tears For Fears ``Rule the World'', which will warp you back to that time in 1985 if you just listen to it. The broadcast date was May 15, 1985. Next is Hungry Eyes from the TV footage of the same program in 1984, when Sheena Easton visited Japan for the third time. Madonna recorded Like A Virgin from the TV broadcast on January 21, 1985, during her first visit to Japan promotion. This is a live broadcast from a famous TV program studio, and you can see the precious footage of Madonna, who is still in a fresh mood, dancing and singing while performing. At around 2 minutes 30 seconds, her hair clip comes loose from her violent actions and falls, and you can see Madonna dancing and trying to pick it up. (In the second half of this song, she intentionally loosens her hair clip, but in this live broadcast, it comes off naturally, and you can see her hastily changing her action.) That accidental happening of Madonna's is something that would only be possible at that time. Normally, it would have been re-recorded, but this is the real pleasure of a live broadcast, and it is also a valuable record. Now, among the performances recorded in the main program, the best content is the performance of Culture Club on June 13, 1983, which was recorded next. Although most of the show is lip-synched mime performances, Culture Club tried live performances, and performed a medley of the soft tune Do You Really Want To Hurt Me and the danceable Church Of The Poison Mind in an 8-minute program, which is unusually long for this show. The outstanding performances of the backing members are also wonderful, but Boy George's magnificent performance is so impressive that it reminds you of big names like David Bowie and Marc Bolan. Anyone who watches it will be amazed, saying, "Is Boy George really that good? Is Culture Club's performance this good?" The vocals are flawless in terms of quality, volume, pitch control, and sex appeal, and the confident actions are also impressive (Bowie level). It is not difficult to imagine that such an amazing performance, broadcast live to living rooms all over Japan in 1983, was quite a shock to Western music fans at the time. In particular, all the impressionable teenage girls who were fans of Western music at the time were knocked out by Boy George's mysterious charm. This broadcast was such a great performance that it seems to be one of the events that will remain in the history of Western music in Japan. In contrast, the next band to have a live performance that was ruined by a problem was U2, and this was a live broadcast on November 21, 1983. They were playing the famous song New Year's Day, but Edge's guitar had a problem and the only sound that came out was a scratchy noise. The beautiful video clearly records how Bono and bassist Adam were performing in a very upset state. Adam noticed the problem from the beginning and was constantly concerned about Edge, who was playing the guitar while playing the piano. At 1 minute and 20 seconds into the video, Bono shouted into the microphone, "Guitar!" (?), and immediately pointed at Edge as if to say, "Do something." Bono, realizing that he couldn't recover, tried to cover the whole thing with ad-libbed vocals, but the guitar, which sounded almost like noise, echoed mercilessly. Even so, Bono improvised the lyrics by inserting the word "Tokyo" and sang the song to the end like a pro. It was a very unsatisfactory performance for the band, and the shock of their live broadcast being turned into a disaster must have been quite serious, but this can also be said to be one of the events that will remain in the history of Japanese Western music. It's 4 minutes and 40 seconds where you can experience the horror of live broadcasting. Next is a live performance by Arabesque that is as refreshing and fun as a soft drink. On the broadcast of May 3, 1982, the smash hit "Hello Mr. Monkey" is sung with an orchestra playing in the background (the studio guest is wearing an origami helmet and dancing behind Arabesque because the Boy's Festival is coming up!), and then the hit song of that time, "Cavallero ni Muchuu" is sung beautifully with a wonderful studio set (live singing). With a splendid stage design, an attractive arabesque voice, and a precise studio orchestra performance, you can enjoy the best performance (direction) that Japanese people can be proud of, even if they are seen by music fans around the world in 2015. Arabesque is the best and strongest. Next is Loverboy's precious live performance when they appeared on TV during their first visit to Japan in October 1982. As expected, the performance of a rock band is something else. Mike Reno is wearing his favorite headband, but didn't someone tell him, "The character 'matsuri' (festival) is upside down, upside down?" Next is Madonna's Like A Virgin again, which was also recorded on TV during their first visit to Japan in January 1985, but the actual broadcast was on February 17th. This is the legendary TV footage of Madonna, who shook the studio with her arrogant attitude, which is unusual for a newcomer, saying, "I'll only perform along with the song three times, so you can record it however you like." With footage recorded from all sides, you can enjoy the charming performance of Madonna singing and dancing alone in excellent quality. Since this is a recording, unlike track 3, the dance action of undoing the hair clip in the second half is perfectly successful. Next is REO Speedwagon's smash hit "Can't Fight This Feeling," which, like the first song "Rule the World," takes the listener back to 1985 in one shot (live broadcast on September 25). It's a mime performance, but the attractive performance scene of the stately band is very convincing. Here is another nostalgic Thompson Twins song, Lay Your Hands On Me, which is a satellite broadcast from London. The rare sight of Thompson Twins performing (mime performance) on a special simple set on the roof of a building will be a shock to fans who love Western music of that time. The texture of the sound in 1985 is irresistible, unlike either the early or late 80s. Finally, we have three consecutive recordings of Sheena Easton's fascinating Japanese studio performances. Telefone was performed during her second visit to Japan in 1983, and her stylish short perm look is irresistible (live broadcast on October 24th). Next is the smash hit Modern Girl, recorded on television during her first visit to Japan in November 1981. With her cute short hair, which Japanese men love, she looks straight into the camera and sings, filling the screen, which is truly impressive (she's wearing tight red hot pants underneath), and her extremely attractive appearance, which can be said to be ideal for all men, has surely captivated all male fans in Japan. The last song is Strut, a hit from 1984, which was even used as a liquor commercial song at the time. The laser-filled production is typical of the mid-80s, and the makeup and hairstyle typical of this period are also attractive. So, it's 56 minutes full of things to see and listen to! This is a collection of Western music programs that Japan can be proud of. It is a very high-quality compilation title that can be enjoyed by anyone who was in their youth at that time, as well as those who love 80s music and culture. It is a recommended piece that you can enjoy with friends while watching it, or you can immerse yourself in memories by yourself and think, "Wow, 30 years have passed already."
