The late 1970s was the golden age when Western music was at its most Western. The release of the finest footage that brings back the rich aroma of that era has been decided. This work contains the legendary music program "MIDNIGHT SPECIAL". This is a collection of footage from the Japanese broadcast version (with Japanese subtitles). This is a great value set of three programs that were once gift-released in a series and became very popular for their completely official quality. This program places the utmost importance on performance scenes such as precious live shows and promo films, and shows each song carefully. It is a treasure trove of Western music where heroes and heroines who decorated the Western music scene in the late 1970s pop out one after another. The recording period is slightly different for each disc, so let's organize it here. Disc 1: 11 groups (26 songs) from 1976-1978 Disc 2: 16 groups (21 songs) from 1978-1980 Disc 3: 17 groups (27 songs) from 1977-1980 It is as follows. Although some of the songs overlap because the episodes are re-edited versions of famous scenes, you can understand how huge the volume is. Moreover, not only the quantity but also the quality is special. The heyday of today's hottest Western music stars overflows endlessly. It is impossible to list all 74 groups in the lineup, but even just the main ones include K.C. & THE SUNSHINE BAND, DARYL HALL & JOHN OATES, REO SPEEDWAGON, ABBA, HEART, TED NUGENT, BAY CITY ROLLERS, JOURNEY, and other distinguished faces. Although some of the clips are familiar, you can enjoy plenty of original studio live performances and exclusive collaborations. Although such performance scenes are the key, the "scent of the era" that envelops this work is also wonderful. Wolfman Jack serves as the general host, but depending on the episode, the artists also serve as hosts. The selection of performers and the talk are also fiercely "Western music". K.C., who is brilliantly in charge of the show despite his main job, Glenn Shorrock, whose jokes fall flat, cute Stephanie Mills, and the beast Ted Nugent, who plays with Steven Tyler as if he were a friend... Whether they are familiar with the show or not, each character shines. Among them, Hall & Oates shows a particularly "musical" air. He introduces the songs from the studio, but he looks strangely serious. When introducing Alice Cooper, he says, "There was a lot going on last year (for Alice)," and "He's a man who is strong in adversity," as if he were talking to a fellow musician. John then asks, "What instruments do you use?" This is unique to the mid-'70s, when new instruments were born one after another and it was impossible to know what kind of sound would come out of each new album. And the clip of Alice that plays is a pioneer of the era when musicians would put on little plays... Even more striking is the third song on disc 1. The host, K.C., said, "Has anyone seen it? Experience what it's like to be a boxer," and introduced the movie "ROCKY"! The theme song "Gonna Fly Now" by Bill Conti played, and Sylvester Stallone punched raw meat, ran, and did one-handed push-ups! While the other songs were all scenes of musicians performing, this was a training scene from the movie. Then, after the famous scene of Stallone running up the stairs of the Philadelphia Museum of Art faded out, the host Jack appeared. After some clumsy shadowboxing, he imitated Stallone and said, "I wanted to be a star. I wanted to beat my opponent and become a big shot. I'm serious..." It was no longer a music program at all. In Japan, it was like the gap between "The Best Ten" and "It's 8 o'clock! All Together". This episode was recorded on March 4, 1977. It was three weeks before "ROCKY" won the Academy Award, and about one month before it was released in Japan. "Rocky is the best. MIGNIGHT SPECIAL too!" I say, returning to normal mode, but "ROCKY" was so popular that a mere music program would even go to great lengths to include it. And in 1977, "Gonna Fly Now" was overflowing. The scent of that era is thickly wafting through the air. Of course, these are just examples. The members' costumes, stage sets, youthful expressions, talks, and more are all part of this video collection that exudes the atmosphere of the golden age of Western music. First, take a look at the list of songs listed below. The people and songs that made my heart burn at the time... it is this lineup that speaks more eloquently than anything else about the appeal of this work. A total of 5 hours, 12 minutes, 44 seconds, 74 groups, and 39 songs. All of them are official quality. A masterpiece that overflows with the scent of the late 70s and the brilliance of the golden age of Western music.
