This February 19, 1987, special session at the Palomino Club, a long-established live music venue in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, is now available in a new, complete stereo soundboard master! The Grammy Award-winning Hall of Fame bluesman Taj Mahal, who has been active since the 1960s, was joined onstage by George Harrison, Bob Dylan, John Fogerty, and Jesse Ed Davis for an impromptu session. Nicknamed the "Silver Wilburys" for their all-star lineup, this live performance, which preceded the Traveling Wilburys, formed the following year, has previously only been available on short, incompletely edited CDs and nearly complete footage with degraded image quality. This new stereo master, newly remixed and enhanced from the soundboard mono source recorded at the venue, perfectly recreates the performance. Shortly after the first half, George Harrison joined the band, and Bob Dylan also appeared on the sixth track, "Matchbox," where George took the lead vocals! After that, John Fogerty of CCR sang lead vocals on "Knock on Wood," and the second half of the show was an unexpected session with a star-studded lineup. From the CCR classic "Proud Mary" sung at Dylan's suggestion to George and Dylan sharing the mic on "Watching the River Flow" and "Peggy Sue," to George singing Beatles-era repertoire like "Honey Don't" and "Dizzy Miss Lizzy," and even the closing "Twist and Shout," the interplay between songs reveals that the session was improvised without any rehearsal. This is a must-have title, capturing the precious record of a unique and legendary live performance that will likely never be replicated again!
