What is this!? An amazing, too amazing studio album has been newly discovered! This is the first appearance of the "HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour" soundboard series, and an immensely shocking work has been decided to be released immediately! This work permanently preserves a tour rehearsal recording whose existence was previously unknown. Based on all circumstantial evidence, this is a treasured album that has only been identified as "somewhere in a studio in January or February 1983." At the time, VAN HALEN was in the midst of the "HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour" accompanying "DIVER DOWN." First, let's take a bird's-eye view of their activities and explore this work's position. 1982 ("DIVER DOWN" released April 14th) July 14th - August 21st: North America #1 (26 shows) ← ※ CLEVELAND 1982 etc. September 1st - 25th: North America #2 (17 shows) ← ※ PHOENIX 1982 etc. October 7th - December 11th: North America #3 (38 shows) ← TORONTO 1982 etc. 1983 January 16th - February 12th: South America (15 shows) ← ★COCO★ May 29th: US Festival Appearance This is a completely unknown rehearsal recording of VAN HALEN from 1982/1983. Speaking of "January or February 1983," it was the only "South American" tour in VAN HALEN's history. It appears to be a studio rehearsal held before or during that tour. Speaking of the "HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour," a huge amount of the finest soundboards are being leaked. At the time, they were recorded by a man named "Roy," who was an engineer for VAN HALEN, and more than 15 superb soundboards have already appeared. In fact, this rehearsal is also one of the newly excavated soundboard series. There are no notations on the tape, and this treasure that had long been left unidentified has finally been made public. The sound is truly transcendent. Anyone who has experienced even one of the newly excavated soundboard series from the "Roy Collection" will have experienced the extremely thick and ultra-direct sound, but this work is two levels higher, as it is made in a studio. Of course, it is not as polished as an official studio work, but it is a magnificent studio recording with a sense of stability that is on a different level from a concert. A secret studio album that reveals the raw VH. Even more shocking than the sound is the content of the rehearsal itself. Basically, it's just Eddie, Alex, and Michael jamming away, with Dave occasionally popping in to dominate the room with his first-rate scat singing and jokes (there's even a song with vocals towards the end). The casual phrases, exchanges between the band members, and snippets of improvisation in between are all imprinted directly into your brain. While it's essentially a free jam session, the phrases that spring forth are astounding. They include riffs from The Troggs' "Wild Thing," Led Zeppelin's "Since I've Been Loving You," and even Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." Of course, all of them are reimagined with Eddie's signature tone and nuances. Then, during the blues jam, Dave suddenly appears on harmonica. Of course, it's Dave playing! He then hums a line from Elvis Presley's "Heartbreak Hotel," with Eddie following suit on guitar. "Jam IV" is a bit amusing. Michael begins playing the bass line from IRON BUTTERFLY's "In A Gadda Da Vida," but before the rest of the band can join in, the crew interrupts, saying, "Hold on, Eddie's tuning up." Michael shines on CREAM's "Crossroads." He plays a super-fast version, almost to the end, with the bass playing a powerful role. He also features vocals, albeit briefly. "Jam VI," reminiscent of Allan Holdsworth's "Material Real," features an arrangement that was also featured in the "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" jam during the South America tour. The rehearsal content also reveals that this was a tour-ready rehearsal. A testament to VH history, even featuring 1984 numbers. Of course, it's not just covers. During the jam, instrumental versions of "Sinner's Swing" and "Hear About It Later" appear. It's also quite vivid when Eddie stops playing "Take Your Whiskey Home" and says, "I don't remember." Another surprise is the appearance of songs from "1984." While still an early instrumental, he plays "Panama," and "Jam V" even features a phrase that develops into the guitar intro to "Hot For Teacher." There's a ten-minute section in the second half where Eddie plays guitar entirely by himself. It's like peering into Eddie's mind. He plays the theme song from the TV drama "The Munsters," then strums the main riff from Michael Jackson's "Beat It." This selection is quite intriguing, considering the song is primarily associated with guitar solos. And then, towards the end, Dave reappears! His conversation is on full display here, sarcastically quipping Eddie's wife, "Here comes a woman who needs no introduction...she's been out of work for three months in Hollywood," and teasing her with some dirty jokes. After warming up, they sing covers of The Beatles' "You Can't Do That" and "Little Dreamer (partway through)." Finally, Dave says, "Roy, that's it," and Roy responds, "OK," bringing the tape to a vivid close. The incredibly rare Roy Collection is also included as a bonus. While the rehearsals themselves are shocking, this release also includes even more incredibly rare bonus material. Six live recordings, each lasting a few minutes, were recorded by the same Roy as the main album. While we've introduced various soundboards so far, these are fragments found on various tapes, previously unreleased. Of course, even though they're fragments, they're still performed by the original Van Halen, and they've been preserved here to preserve the truth of the "Roy Collection" for future generations. This newly unearthed soundboard collection from the miraculous Roy, who continues to produce shocking releases every decade. This is a mind-blowing rehearsal album that will blow your mind, even if it's been numb from the sheer volume of recordings. Not only the sound, but also the content is a transcendent studio recording of another dimension. A superb stereo soundboard recording of the rehearsal of the "HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour". Although this series was recorded by an engineer named "Roy," the sound is two levels higher, as expected from a studio. It features jams featuring various classic songs by artists such as Queen and Michael Jackson, as well as an early version of "Panama." This is the ultimate experience of secret rehearsals never before known to exist. Unknown Place, South America January or February 1983 STEREO SBD Disc: 1 (42:42) 1. Jam I 2. Jam II 3. Jam III 4.
