The "HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour" has seen a surge in the discovery of unprecedented soundboards, unprecedented in the history of VAN HALEN...or even in the entire history of rock music. The latest release, two ultra-unique titles that set them apart, are being released all at once! This is the second part of this series. It's a superb stereo soundboard recording of the "September 7, 1982 Phoenix Performance." As mentioned in the commentary for the simultaneously released "CLEVELAND 1982 SOUNDBOARD," this series is unique even in its debut soundboard series. However, their individuality is completely different, and this work is a masterpiece that can be enjoyed with a superb live performance and a slightly unusual sound. And one of the reasons for this uniqueness lies in the show's position. To explain this, let's first take a bird's-eye view of their activities. 1982 (April 14th release of "DIVER DOWN") July 14th - August 21st: North America #1 (26 performances) ← ※ CLEVELAND 1982 etc. September 1st - 25th: North America #2 (17 performances) ← ★ Here ★ October 7th - December 11th: North America #3 (38 performances) ← TORONTO 1982 etc. 1983 January 16th - February 12th: South America (15 performances) May 29th: US Festival Appearance A dynamic, unique sound exuding an experimental spirit This is VAN HALEN from the "DIVER DOWN" era. The first appearance soundboard series so far has been excavated from "North America #1/3", but this Phoenix performance was the fifth performance of "North America #2". This show was a hidden night, where no audience recordings had ever been found, but now it can be enjoyed on a soundboard, and the quality is exceptional. Like the previous debut soundboard series, it's still a direct mixboard system, but the mix has changed. This is particularly noticeable in the vocals. Effects are now applied to Dave's main vocals, and the chorus has been split between left and right (Eddie on the right channel, Michael on the left), emphasizing the sense of width. This is likely related to the band's entry into the new leg, "North America #2." All of the tapes in this newly discovered series were recorded on the mixboard by an engineer named "Roy," but it seems he was experimenting with various things on this day. Furthermore, the recording itself was different from previous releases. For some unknown reason, the tape was running with noise reduction applied, resulting in a subtly different nuance from previous releases. Moreover, this experiment was only available for this day. While the soundboard series has grown considerably, this is a unique album unlike any other. A super-charged, fully recovered performance. Such a passionate sound paints a fiery, passionate performance. The simultaneous release of the sister album "CLEVELAND 1982 SOUNDBOARD" was adversely affected by the final day of the leg, but "North America #2," which was re-released after a break, is in top form! Perhaps because the off-season wasn't long enough to make them forget the feel of the live performance, their physical recovery directly translated into momentum, creating an incredibly good groove. Even with the same tempo, the beats are completely different, and the four members' breathing is perfectly synchronized. Listening to "CLEVELAND 1982" back-to-back is a thrilling, eye-opening performance. The barrage of intense soundboards has tended to numb the senses, but this week, two unique series that will invigorate the brain are being released simultaneously. "CLEVELAND 1982 SOUNDBOARD" is a strange work that's interestingly shaky, dividing opinions, but this is a musically cool and dynamic masterpiece. It's a must-listen for anyone wanting to discover the unknown "North America #2." This is the first stereo soundboard recording of the "September 7, 1982 Phoenix Performance." Like previous series, it was directly connected to the mix desk, but on this day, the band experimented with sound, applying effects to Dave's vocals and splitting the chorus between left and right (Eddie on the right, Michael on the left) to emphasize the sense of width. Perhaps because it was fresh off the break, it's in top form, and even among the many soundboard series, this is a cool and dynamic masterpiece.
