The ultimate rhythm section, a shining light in jazz history, comprised of Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams, each of whom possessed national popularity and talent, possessed an unimaginable magic when they came together. Their technique was undeniable, but they also possessed a clever, intellectual sensibility, an aggressive, explosive energy, and a rare presence that is unlikely to be seen again, let alone before. Unfortunately, this release does not feature the legendary Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter, one of the Four Heavenly Kings. However, this recording features a rare quartet, including Wynton Marsalis, who was a center of attention in the Jazz Messengers at the time and was even described as the reincarnation of Clifford Brown. This exceptional recording captures the rare quartet performance of Miles Davis's golden quintet, featuring Herbie, Tony, and Wynton Marsalis, in superb audio quality. Unfortunately, this album doesn't feature Miles Davis, the magician's boss, or Wayne Shorter, one of the Four Heavenly Kings. However, it does feature Wynton Marsalis, who was the center of attention at the time with the Jazz Messengers and was even described as the second coming of Clifford Brown. Even so, Wynton's impressive one-horn playing on "The Sorcerer" and other tracks throughout the album is a testament to his majesty!
