TOTO's first visit to Japan in 1980, when they brought their debut album "TOTO" and "HYDRA", will be released on a two-disc set at the Aichi Prefectural Labor Hall in Nagoya on March 3, the second day of the tour! This work uses the original Miracle Man recording master, which is making its first appearance. You can enjoy the first visit to Japan, which was filled with the enthusiasm of the fans and the finest performances, with a high-quality audience source! TOTO was formed by young but well-known session musicians such as the Porcaro brothers, Jeff and Steve, David Paich, and Steve Lukather. Their excellent songs became a hot topic immediately after their album debut in 1978. It was their second album "HYDRA" that showed their true value as a "group of talented musicians". Taking a step beyond the melodic and catchy musical sounds expressed in the first album, the band's diverse style, which also shows a dramatic, progressive, and even hard side, was an ambitious work that embodied the Latin word "Toto" (to integrate, to cover), from which the band's name was derived. "HYDRA" was highly praised not only for the quality of the songs, but also by Japanese enthusiasts who are particular about the sound aspect, such as their arranging and performance skills. In addition to general popularity, Toto was also recognized as a band for connoisseurs, and established their position as an undisputed top band that combines popularity and ability. It was in March 1980 that they made their long-awaited first visit to Japan. Starting with a performance in Osaka on March 2nd, the Japan tour, which consisted of a total of 10 performances, ended with great success at each performance (tickets for each performance were sold out immediately after they went on sale, which shows how popular the band was). In particular, the live performance at the Tokyo Welfare Pension Hall on March 12 was broadcast on television, leaving a strong impression on Western music fans all over Japan. However, surprisingly, only a limited number of recordings are known about this first performance in Japan. In addition to the TV footage of the Tokyo performance mentioned above, the recordings of the 12th and 13th have been released as "HYDRA COMES TOKYO," but there are almost no recordings of performances outside of Tokyo. This newly discovered recording is the Nagoya performance on March 3, a precious "non-Tokyo" live performance. It is also a high-quality audience master recorded by Miracle Man! If you are a TOTO fan, you will be intrigued, and this is a definitive recording that will not disappoint you, even on your first visit to Japan! The recording starts with a movie-like opening SE. The applause and cheers that spread throughout the venue as the members appear increase the sense of expectation for the upcoming live performance. The moment the first song, "Hydra," is introduced from here, the audience is filled with joy, which is a highlight of the recording. Although the sound image feels a little distant from the taper and the stage, the sound is well-balanced and well-balanced, and the sense of realism created by the airiness and sound spread is very high quality. Above all, the vintage texture that is "just like a live tape" is irresistible! Although it is not glaringly bright, the analog-like mellowness is both easy to listen to and deep in flavor. In "St. George And The Dragon" featuring Bobby Kimball, the audience's clapping livens up the mood. However, it is a nice point that there are almost no scenes where cheers or talking interfere with the performance. You can enjoy songs such as "Mama", "Angela", and "99" without feeling stressed, which require careful listening. Fans will be delighted from the intro of the first album's "Child's Anthem" and "I'll Supply The Love". Lukather's comfortable guitar and the sophisticated melodies woven by Paich and Steve Porcaro's keyboards are a superb listening experience. At the beginning of disc 2, the unreleased song "Tale Of A Man" is the climax of this recording. The groove created by Jeff P-Caro's drums and Bobby's powerful vocals are so impressive. Lukather's guitar solo is also a must-listen. After that, "Georgy Porgy", "Rockmaker", "Girl Goodbye" and the big hit "Hold The Line" are a series of masterpieces from the first album. Then, "White Sister", which rocks even more than the album, concludes the main part of the set in an impressive way. The encore is the standard "Runaway" from the early live performances and "All Us Boys", which is simple but fun to rock, closing the approximately 90-minute recording. From the opening to the ending, there is plenty of early TOTO charm. The American rock sound with outstanding technique and pop feeling will intoxicate listeners, from the maniacs who experienced them in real time to the fans who followed them later.
