Thundercat was a member of Suicidal Tendencies, a hardcore band that added funk elements to thrash metal, and later participated as a bassist in Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus, and Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly. He was also selected as one of Rolling Stone magazine's top 50 bassists of all time. This title is a live recording of his latest fourth album, It Is What It Is, at the Stern Grove Festival after the release of the album in 2020, with a live audience that gives a sense of presence. The sweet and silky vocals of Durag, the progressive instrumental parts reminiscent of Yes, and the skillful performance reminiscent of Stanley Clarke will make you smile, but the raging funkiness will grab the listener's heart.
