The latest live album has arrived from THE WHO, who are continuing “THE WHO HITS 50!”. The 50th anniversary tour, which started in November 2014, will resume in February this year. We have also reported on the kick-off performance “WEMBLEY ARENA 2016” in his home country of England, but this time it is a masterpiece recording of the North American leg. This is an audience album containing the “March 24, 2016 Washington Performance”. THE WHO toured North America exactly one year ago, but this time they had a total of 28 performances, and this was their 11th performance. The flavor of this work is the rich sound. The “Verizon Center” that became the scene is an indoor stadium with a capacity of 20,000 people, but although there is a spatial spectacle in the loud cheers, the musical tone is extremely clear. The core is thick and sharply cut, and each instrument does not mix together and you can feel the gaps. I don't know the exact recording position, but it feels like the musical sound is coming straight through, and then the reverberation spreads to the rear, so I think it must have been a very front seat. For example, in an MC, you can clearly hear each word, but the reverberation feels like it's echoing in the distance. You can feel it from the cheers. The dense, detailed applause was like a carpet, and it seemed to spread far behind. It does not come between the musical tone and the speaker. And the spread is huge! While enjoying plenty of clear musical tones, you can certainly feel the presence of 20,000 people. Greatest Hits drawn with such quality is exceptional. That song that comes to mind when you say "Speaking of THE WHO", this song is performed one after another. The set list has changed slightly from "WEMBLEY ARENA 2016", which was the first day of 2016, with "The Real Me" by "QUADROPHENIA" in the first half, and "Slip Kid" by "THE WHO BY NUMBERS" in the second half. . In particular, "Slip Kid" is an extremely rare song that has only been played a handful of times in the entire history of THE WHO. Although it was performed only a few times last year/the year before, this one was actually a happening. Originally, it was planned to play "Eminence Front" here, but the day before, Pete Townshend's voice stopped coming out, and it was switched to "Slip Kid" without rehearsal. The reaction of the audience, who were surprised and delighted by the MC who talked about this, and enjoyed the rare song to the fullest, was also very vivid. In the next “March 26th St. Louis”, he returns to “Eminence Front”, so it is a valuable performance only for this day. You can listen to it with clear sound that approaches the sound board. A wonderful sound that is one of the best in “THE WHO HITS 50!” and can be said to be number one in 2016. It is a 100% raw record where you can listen to valuable performances with such quality. As expected, Pete's voice is not in good condition, but the band as a whole is in great shape as if to bounce back from such a slump. Since we have held over 10 performances since the tour restarted, we are firing on all cylinders. Please take this opportunity to fully enjoy the latest THE WHO.
