This is the second work of The Who's unreleased first appearance soundboard sound source, released simultaneously this week. Like "NEW JERSEY 1982," this edition is a 2CD recording of the finest stereo soundboard, with a sound quality comparable to that of the official edition, with a careful mix. This album has been mixed in perfect phase from the beginning. What is recorded is the concert held at Memorial Coliseum in Portland, Oregon on October 21st, 10 days after “NEW JERSEY 1982” in the middle of the farewell tour. This clarity, granularity of sound, and good balance are among the best of the Who's live sound sources, and the total impact is tremendous. The mid-song cuts on the master that appear to have had a tape change, which were also seen in the Stones archive sound source in 1981, are at 0'58" for Drowned and at 1'30" for Love Reign O'er Me. Yes, but everything else is perfect. Although it is a guess, it is thought that The Who at that time was recording in various places with the intention of officially releasing the farewell tour live from the beginning. This is how the tape of the day that was not finally adopted saw the light of day, but given this quality, it can be said to be an irresistible surprise present for The Who fans. It's a good thing that such a treasure was hidden there. If you listen carefully, you can see traces of editing between the songs before Who Are You, but the rest is completely uncut, realistically conveying their brave appearance on the farewell tour. Looking at the performance date of this edition, as mentioned in the simultaneously released "NEW JERSEY 1982", all songs are genuine live takes that are appearing for the first time, without any duplication of the sound source released as the official edition. Therefore, it would have been no different if the main version had been released as the official live version (two songs from the Seattle performance the next day were released on the official version "WHO'S"). LAST", but the master of this edition is the day before). The sound quality and mix are impeccable, with Pete on the right, John on the left, Kenny in the center and distributed to all channels, with support keyboards covering them, which is super clear. It approaches with a sound. Because it is so clear, you can even see that John Entwistle was playing the bass with wah-wah at the end of Won’t get Fooled Again. What makes me happy above all is that Roger's voice is still coming out well as it is still in the middle of the tour. On the officially released DVD of his final performance in Toronto, he was speechless and looked quite pained, but here he was not worried at all, and his original shouts exploded everywhere. (In the middle of the performance, when the singer was covered in phlegm, the MC commented that the air conditioning in the venue was having a negative impact on the singers.) This is it, Roger. This is The Who. In the set list that has changed little by little every day, it is valuable that on this day you can listen to the initial number I Can See For Miles and A Man Is A Man from the last album “IT’S HARD”. Among them, the former is a smart song selection that makes you think that Pete had in mind that this song finally became a big hit in the United States in 1967. The latter is a great song with flavorful lyrics and melody that are similar to Pete's later solo work. On this day, they played three songs in the encore, and it was also valuable that they played Naked Eye, which had not been played the previous day. If you listen to the entire stage, you will understand that The Who, who officially disbanded this year, was the culmination of all 19 years with this performance. If you purchase it together with the simultaneously released "NEW JERSEY 1982", you will have the pleasure of listening and comparing, and will be able to experience the high quality that is difficult to compare. The sudden discovery of an ultra-super quality master that is as good as the official live version can be called an “incident”. Please enjoy The Who's last brave appearance with a newly discovered sound source, with no cutting corners throughout, and a sharp performance. Live at Memorial Coliseum, Portland, OR.
