The Who's 1973 "QUADROPHENIA" tour, whose items have been limited to the American tour to this day. Even recently, "L.A. FORUM 1973 2ND NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD MASTER TAPES", the memorable maiden recording of the legendary taper Mike Millard, was just released, and this is also a sound source from the American tour. In addition, there are also full-length versions of radio sound sources such as "DEFINITIVE PHILADELPHIA 1973" and "DEFINITIVE LARGO 1973", and for many years this tour has only had items created from the American dates. I am. However, the "QUADROPHENIA" tour itself started with a tour of their home country of England for about two weeks starting at the end of October. If you are a hardcore fan of The Who, you may be aware of this fact, but no items were produced from that UK tour, and other than those who dabbled in trade sound sources, there was no record of the band's previous tour in the United States. I could only catch a glimpse of the tour through radio broadcast audio. Of course, the sound source also exists on the UK tour. However, the number of existing audience recordings is limited (even on days when the sound source has not been excavated), and the sound quality is poor. There are even sound sources that only contain the live performance up to the middle, such as the Newcastle performance on November 6th. Under such circumstances, I would not have been able to hear about the UK dates of the "QUADROPHENIA" tour unless I decided to use trade-level sound sources, but recently I suddenly found out about them. The Manchester performance on November 1st surprised maniacs all over the world. The "QUADROPHENIA" tour has been held twice in the same location, and the sound source from the second day has been around for a long time and can be heard on YouTube. However, the sound quality of the audience recording on this day was so bad that I can safely say it was the worst on the UK tour, making it impossible to listen to it all the way through. The quality was so rough that I thought it was. In that respect, this first day in Manchester is surprisingly easy to listen to. Of course, it is a typical vintage audience with monaural recording, but there is no rough feeling like the previous one. If recording equipment from the 1970s captures the Who's live sound, which is assumed to have been extremely loud at the venue, one wrong move could result in the sound becoming saturated and becoming unbearable to listen to. , this time's sound source is not like that, but rather captures it with a powerful sound image. It's really impressive, and if you're a fan, you might even feel excited while listening to it. The state of preservation of the tape is also miraculous, and there is no rough hiss noise. If you compare it with Millard's maiden work "L.A. FORUM 1973 2ND NIGHT", which was released in 1973, you will feel that this sound source is superior in terms of ease of listening and stability. I was also surprised that there were very few changes made to the release. In this way, from the 1973 “QUADROPHENIA” UK tour, a quality sound source that could be listened to carefully was finally discovered! And since it is the third day of the tour itself that carried "QUADROPHENIA", the performance content is very interesting because it is a very early stage stage. After all, it was a show the day before the album was released. What's more, since it's "QUADROPHENIA" that Pete put his heart into, it seems like it's the beginning of the tour, as he gives a detailed and long explanation before the start of the part. “Real Me”, which opens the show, was played with explosive force, but something happened immediately after it. Pete can't start playing "The Punk and The Godfather", which would normally be avalanche, and an awkward pause continues. As a result, the venue started to get noisy, but then Pete called out, "Shut up!" and restarted the event. By the way, the next day it was played without any hitch, and the happenings here are even more outstanding. This scene alone was a very thrilling scene, but this time when I tried to start “Drowned”, Pete’s guitar tuning went crazy. Here, Keith is also trying to connect the scene with MC, but since there is no evidence that Pete himself has corrected the tuning, he probably changed the guitar itself from replacing it. The happenings that seem to occur at the beginning of the tour alone are enough to document the value, but the tension of the “QUADROPHENIA” set is extremely high. It's so clear that you can feel that they are able to overcome such incidents with their spirit. The performance of "Love Reign O'er Me" was suitable for the finale of such a part. Perhaps due to the feeling of freedom after finishing the "QUADROPHENIA" part that was just before the release, the performance in the second half of the live was at full throttle. On the other hand, the excitement of the large chorus during "See Me, Feel Me" conveys a sense of peace typical of Manchester's concert halls, which is different from the arena-based arenas in America, and makes me feel warm. The day of passionate performances ended with "Magic Bus," but the song developed into a jam and Pete started playing a free riff of "All Right Now." It is surprising that this not only repeats, but also develops to the point where Roger starts singing the same song. In fact, this development is a scene that was occasionally seen from the 1972 European tour, but this is the first time that it has been made into a sound record. It is also valuable that it is played at the conclusion of the stage that mainly featured “QUADROPHENIA” in 1973. The first audience recording of maniacs from the UK tour of "QUADROPHENIA", which until now was completely biased to American sound sources and had no items, has finally been released.
