This performance in Japan showcased ``Hackett's progressive rock'' all at once, from GENESIS to his early solo masterpieces to his latest works. Among them, "KAWASAKI 2016" (hereinafter referred to as 2CD), which is a perfect recording of the full-scale opening day performance, is a masterpiece that leaves no questions asked. The true identity of this work is the Year in Monitor (IEM) album of the “May 21, 2016 Club Citta Kawasaki” performance. As you may already know, IEM is a device that intercepts the wireless radio waves being listened to by members and staff during a performance. It is an approximate sound board-like sound source that does not pass through PA, and is popular for its clear and vivid musical tone comparable to line sound sources. However, since the main purpose is to understand the progress of the show, unlike the mix that is heard by the audience, it is often artistically distorted. In addition, since it is only radio wave interception, it is easily influenced by the environment, and it is rare to be able to record a complete show. For this reason, it is customary to matrix the music with an audience recording from the same live performance and pass the whole thing through the audience recording to add an edge to the musical sound. tend to be sharply divided). ...Well, this is the basics of IEM. A matrix was also devised for this work and the audience recording for this 2CD, but because the main audience was so perfect, there was no room for IEM. Normally, it would have disappeared into the darkness of history, but the quality of this work was too good to be erased. In fact, this is a record by an expert in IEM interception, and there are almost no IEM shortcomings as mentioned above. At the beginning, there is some noise due to poor reception, but it quickly disappears and the entire story is captured clearly. Moreover, the mix is highly complete, and is of a quality that can be fully enjoyed as a "musical work". That vivid musical tone is just wonderful. The separation of each instrument is vivid, and each note "stands" one by one. Everything is clear, but the chorus and Hackett's Japanese MC are especially vivid. You can even hear the breathing of your mouth pressed against the microphone, making you feel as if you are the microphone. Of course, the chorus is not the only thing that stands out, but the closeness to this extent is something that cannot be heard even on 2CDs that record the sound output from the PA. Of course, it's far from the natural and exquisite sound world of 2CD, but it's still a record that's too delicious to ignore. Live at Club Citta, Kawasaki, Japan 21st May 2016 Disc 1 (76:40) 01.
