Founded in 1979 by part-time workers at the New York nightclub Seventh Avenue South, "Steps" was formed around Mike Mainieri. Since a group with the same name already existed, they renamed themselves "Steps Ahead" in 1982. In 1983, the year Steps Ahead released their first album, the band performed in Lund, Sweden on April 30th, featuring the same lineup as the album, Mainieri on vibraphone, Michael Brecker on tenor saxophone, Eliane Elias on piano, Peter Erskine on drums, and Eddie Gomez on bass. This definitive recording has been carefully remastered by the label to remove hiss and other artifacts present on the original master.
