The Second Arrangement, a phantom unreleased song that was supposed to be included on the 1980 album Gaucho but was shelved due to an accident, is now available in master quality, complete with rough mixes recorded by engineer Roger Nichols! In addition, a must-have item featuring demos, outtakes, and unreleased songs from Aja, such as Steve Gadd's separate take of the drummer Peg, is now available for the first time! The Second Arrangement, a phantom unreleased song that was supposed to be included on the 1980 album Gaucho, was recorded in 1979 when a studio assistant accidentally erased the master tape, and the song was re-recorded but was not satisfactory, resulting in it being shelved. Fortunately, Roger Nichols, who was Steely Dan's engineer during the production of this album, recorded a rough mix of this song on cassette tape a few days before it was erased. Roger Nichols passed away in 2011, but in 2020, while sorting through his father's belongings, Nichols' two daughters, who were bored during the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, discovered a cassette tape containing the phantom unreleased song "Second Arrangement"! However, since it was a 40-year-old tape, the daughters were afraid of separation and could not play it. A year later, in 2021, they visited a recording studio in Los Angeles and were able to listen to it safely with the help of engineer Bill Smith. The DAT tape was later discovered. The tape contained about 20 minutes of music, including three tracks: "The Second Arrangement", an instrumental version of "The Second Arrangement", and "Were You Blind That Day", which filled the gap after the erasure of "The Second Arrangement", which later became "Third World Man" on the album "Gaucho". Incidentally, the members who participated in "The Second Arrangement", recorded in 1979, were Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, Ed Greene (confirmed) on drums, and the others changed depending on the take, but it is said that Will Lee and Chuck Rainey were on bass, Don Grolnick on keyboards, and Hiram Bullock on guitar. If you listen to it, you will understand - this "The Second Arrangement" has been circulating among collectors for some time, but it was a poor sound quality that had been dubbed many times. This work is a complete recording of the phantom "Roger Nichols Tapes" containing Steely Dan's most important unreleased song "The Second Arrangement" and others in the astonishingly high quality of master tape quality, and 10 tracks of demos and outtakes of the historical masterpiece "Aja", which is said to be the monument of AOR, are also recorded in the astonishingly high quality of master tape quality! ! This album will also bring tears to fans' eyes, including two versions of the unreleased song "Stand by the Seawall," which was the source material for "Aja." Michael Omartian, who participated in the recording of this song at the time, said that he was surprised that this song was cut when the album "Aja" was released. It is such a well-crafted work. Other great contents include two versions of the completely unreleased song "(You Got) the Bear," recorded in 1977 with Larry Carlton, Joe Sample, Victor Feldman, Chuck Rainey, and Rick Marotta, "Peg," which is played by Steve Gadd on drums, although the official release features Ed Green on drums, instrumental versions of "Aja," "I Got the News," and "Josie," an alternate mix of "Deacon Blues," and even a basic track from "FM." This is truly the making of "Aja." From the release of "The Royal Scam" in 1976, Steely Dan became a project by Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, rather than a group. They made their big break with "Aja" released the following year in 1977, which won a Grammy and became their first platinum album. This album contains 70 minutes of extremely rare studio sessions, mainly completely unreleased songs from Steely Dan's heyday, all in the most amazing high quality sound. This is an amazing item that you can't talk about Steely Dan without listening to it!
