A high-quality audience recording of the February 7, 1971 benefit concert at the Roundhouse. Although the sound quality is a little distorted, it is an ideal sound that matches the band's tone very well. (Co-starring were Daevid Allen & Friends, Kevin Ayers & The Whole World, Elton Dean Quartet, Symbiosis, Ivor Cutler, and Ralph McTell) Released on February 28th Just after the completion of “Fourth”, there were many jazz elements. It's a very colorful show, and I'm truly at a loss for words at the number of crazy plays that maintain the tension of the members who are fully engaged in improvisation. (On March 11th, they performed a live performance for "In Concert" on the BBC as "Soft Machine & Heavy Friends") The special atmosphere that only this band has is permeated throughout the album, and the time signature is 9/8. Teeth has a vivid development, and Kings And has an impressive undulation of the whole band with a simple 2 chord. Queens, cool free jazz approach (Rutledge and Hopper's extremely balanced and exquisite combination is the best) Fletcher's Blemish, the contrast between the sharp duo (unison) of Rutledge and Elton and the rhythm section's improvisation I am constantly overwhelmed by the driving band ensembles such as Virtually, which is very interesting. Hugh Hopper's 4-beat bass running, which can be heard everywhere, is also vivid. A rich live sound source that was most reminiscent of Soft Machine at a time when jazz/rock connections such as the Keith Tippett Group and Nucleus were rapidly expanding! (Only at this wonderful time, the radio sound source is officially released) Please fully enjoy the original psychedelic sound world of Canterbury's best Soft Machine.
