In 1991, SKID ROW reached the peak of their power with "SLAVE TO THE GRIND," which reached No. 1 in the US. This video features a rehearsal pro-shot of the band, just as they were about to embark on their quest for world domination. This film was shot during a tour rehearsal for the "SLAVE TO THE GRIND Tour." It's a single-camera pro-shot. This cult rehearsal footage, with its esoteric atmosphere, is perhaps more worthy of being called a "treasure" than this film. Everything is a mystery. The date, time, and location are unknown, and even the actual location is a mystery. The windowless walls, exposed insulation, and a dimly lit room lit by a simple electric light. Equipment and amplifiers are haphazardly (but in large quantities) lined up in a space resembling a warehouse or prefabricated building. The cheap-looking scene is more like a factory or a military base from the movie "Rambo: First Blood Part II" than a studio. The situation alone is bizarre, but what happens there is a scorching live performance that's just like the real thing! The members of SKID ROW lined up in a space resembling a stage, arranged just like they would for the actual show, and unleashed a ferocious live performance. The energy was incredible. Even though the space wasn't big enough for them to run around, they went wild with violent action, swinging their long, beautiful hair around with furious headbanging. Everyone was drenched in sweat as they gave a passionate performance, and even Buzz, half-naked, never failed to entertain the cameras. Of course, there was no audience at the venue, and they took turns setting up and discussing things between songs, but when they started playing, it was as if they could see a huge crowd of tens of thousands of people. Just watching it made you wonder why they went to such lengths even though it was just a rehearsal! This hyper studio live performance featured a deadly rush of hits that condensed and reduced the band's first two albums. Let's take a look at the set contents here. Slave to the Grind (5 songs, 6 takes) Slave to the Grind / Riot Act / Monkey Business (2 takes) / The Threat (★) / Get the Fuck Out (6 songs) Skid Row: Big Guns / Piece of Me / Makin' A Mess (collapsed midway) / 18 And Life / Youth Gone Wild Other: Little Wing (★) *Note: "★" indicates songs not seen in the classic Japanese pro shot "BUDOKAN 1992." ...And so it goes. Perhaps because it was a rehearsal, the performance of "Makin' A Mess" collapsed midway, and "Monkey Business" was redone. This is a fiercely active and exquisite private pro shot. It's so bizarre and hyper that I completely missed writing about it, but the camerawork conveying this secret scene is also excellent. It's a one-camera pro shot by someone involved, but that's why the sense of being there is incredible. He wanders freely among the band members, even standing next to each one. The variety of shots, from close-ups to panoramic views, is so vast that it doesn't even require multiple cameras. In fact, Buzz sings directly to the band, so far from being rude to the camera, it feels like they're playing around with each other as if they're friends. Even more striking is the audio. I don't know if it's actually a line or a microphone recording that sounds like a line because it's so closed off, but the bottom line is that it's a completely soundboard-quality, ultra-direct sound. There are moments when the mix gets out of whack and becomes explosive (it quickly recovers), but even that is super vivid. The band's stadium-heating potential is directly pumped into your brain, and your entire body synchronizes with SKID ROW at their peak. It's amazing. It's just too amazing. The secrecy of the situation, the hyper-live performance at their peak, and the raw, vivid sense of presence. This is both a priceless documentary and a musically gripping masterpiece. A true treasure, this is an absolute must-have video. This is a single-camera pro-shot of the tour rehearsal for the "SLAVE TO THE GRIND Tour." Filmed with a handheld camera, the staff wanders freely between the band members, offering a wide variety of shots, from panoramic views to close-ups of each member standing next to them, all without the need for multiple cameras. The performance was so intense, with everyone sweating, it was hard to believe it was a rehearsal. This is both a priceless documentary and an absolute must-have musical experience.
