This is the latest release in the precious radio aircheck series, which has attracted attention for its ability to package radio programs broadcast in the 1970s and revive the atmosphere of the era. This time, we have "The Story of Carlos Santana" from the 1976 "Rock Summer Lectures," where the famous music critic served as DJ. This work also records the content that was broadcast at the time as it was, and takes the listener on a time trip 37 years ago. This 1976 Rock Summer Lectures was broadcast for six consecutive days from August 9th to 14th, and this "The Story of Carlos Santana" was broadcast on August 9th, the first episode of the series. The music program recorded here is one of the "Rock Summer Lectures" series that was featured every summer on FM stations in the Kanto region in the mid-1970s. In addition to blues and progressive rock, the program featured overseas music and rock from various angles. As I wrote in the past releases of the same series, "The Eric Clapton Story," "The Ritchie Blackmore Story," and "The Greg Lake Story," the reception is so stable that you might even wonder if they copied the master from the broadcasting station. This program is also broadcast from a tourist spot, and the forced setting that makes you wonder "Why Sumata Gorge?" is also a nice 70s feel. In terms of content, the program plays representative songs from each era, and in between songs, the familiar famous music critics and guests have fun and interesting talks. The actual recording on this day seems to have been done early in the morning, or rather, in the middle of the night, and the explanation that "It was recorded with a new system called a dummy head" also gives a sense of the era. The latest work from this period was the release of the seventh album "Amigos," which was a big hit with "Europe," and it was the time when Santana, who had been consistently releasing masterpieces since 1969, was at the peak of his popularity. The DJ's DJ talk and Santana reviews are also very interesting, as they are surprisingly accurate in discussing the direction and changes of Santana, while still giving a sense of the era, but the highlight of the show is the exclusive interview with the famous designer who designed the album jackets for "Lotus" and "Amigos", which appears in two parts of the program. In these interviews, we hear fascinating stories and anecdotes about how he came to be in charge of the jackets, his honest opinions on the music, and more. As a "very real 'sound cultural heritage' from the '70s told in his own voice," it would be a shame to let it remain sealed away like this; it is an extremely important piece. ("At first, they sent me a rough design made by someone else and said, 'This is terrible, I don't like it, can you give me some advice or fix it?' and the conversation developed from there. But it would be rude to rework a design made by someone else, so I ended up doing it from scratch, but if you listen to the concept, there wasn't anything specific in mind, just that it was "danceable," "powerful," "disco-like," and "African-like" (lol)." It's a fun read to hear such interesting stories.) A must-listen-to hour-long program for all Santana fans. Broadcast Date : 9th August 1976 1. Intro. 2. Black Magic Woman/Gypsy Queen 3. DJ Talk 4.
