The third installment of the super high quality series is here. The main character this time is the famous band SAGA, whose demise is imminent. Yes, together with RUSH, they are heroes who have led Canadian progressive rock since the 70s. SAGA celebrated their 40th anniversary this year, but in January 2017, they announced their disbandment. This year they have been doing the "FINAL CHAPTER" TOUR. That tour has already ended, and there have been only two live performances in 2018. The "CRUISE TO THE EDGE" performance on February 7, 2018, which is included in this work, and the last concert scheduled for February 24. SAGA is about to reach its "end", but speaking of "CRUISE TO THE EDGE 2018" in which they participated, the YES version released the other day has been very well received, and this week the Steve Hackett version will also be released. Both were super-excellent recordings by the same recording artist, and this is the third installment of the series. After all, they are sister works by the same recording artist and the same equipment. In fact, there were not only three bands that participated in this "CRUISE TO THE EDGE 2018". The main ones are MARILLION, Neal Morse, GONG, CARL PALMER'S ELP LEGACY, Martin Barre, FOCUS, GLASS HAMMER, ADRIAN BELEW POWER TRIO, STICKMEN WITH DAVID CROSS, etc. It was a huge progressive paradise with a total of 28 new and old bands / artists participating. I would like to hear all of them, but it is almost impossible for one recorder to record all the shows. This time, this master chose YES, Hackett, and SAGA. And the sound is phenomenal. The ultra-high quality sound proven by YES / Hackett penetrates this work, with a solid core like a sound board, a direct feeling with zero distance, and thoroughly clear and delicate details. And yet the faintly/slightly wrapped sound of the venue makes the sound even more beautiful, the high notes that reach endlessly clear through the chest, and the deep bass vibes that shake the floor of the venue shake the five organs. Even if you try your best to find an flaw, there is no room for complaint. This thorough high-quality sound is common to YES/Hackett, but this work feels even more amazing. The difference is the sound of the band. Compared to the royal symphonic YES and Hackett, SAGA is much closer to hard rock. The powerful beat and clear ensemble make it feel even more robust and vivid. In fact, it is an audience recording, but there is no point in classifying the recording method anymore. The technology of 2018, the technology of mankind has made it possible to record so beautifully... that fact alone is enough to shock you with an amazing sound world. The quality depicts the passionate performance of SAGA, which condenses their 40-year history. Although the time limit is short because it is an event, it is packed with the great representative songs that have colored their history. The best songs are selected from their heyday from their debut to "BEHAVIOUR", but "The 13th Generation" and "The Learning Tree" from their first total work "GENERATION 13" and "On The Air" from "NETWORK" are inserted, subtly exuding their long history. And above all, the powerful and lively performance is wonderful. It is a performance that is savored because they are in the final countdown to the end, but on the other hand, it is hard to believe that this is a band that is about to break up. Mike Sadler's singing voice is still heroic, and his combination with Ian and Jim Crichton is ironclad. Jim Gilmore's endlessly dramatic synths are the same as in the golden age. SAGA produced a miraculous masterpiece just before the end. The show condenses the glorious journey into 75 minutes, so it is perfectly OK even if this is your first SAGA experience. The sound, which easily surpasses the limits of audience recording, will impress even those who have never heard an audience recording before. This is a record that will remind you of the meaning of living while loving progressive rock and live recordings. This is the birth of a masterpiece that everyone should experience, not just the maniacs who have been following them for many years.
