The Rolling Stones' masterpiece "1969" was released to commemorate the 50th anniversary of their 1969 US tour. It was a huge bestseller, as it compiled the sporadically existing soundboard material from the tour, apart from the official "GET YER YA-YA'S OUT!", into a compilation of the actual setlist. Its easy-to-understand yet comprehensive sound quality as a soundboard album remains popular to this day, and in response to requests from enthusiasts for a reissue—or rather, for a consistently available standard item—this long-awaited reissue is here. However, a simple reissue would be a waste. Graf Zeppelin once again meticulously adjusted scattered noise and volume inconsistencies. This upgraded release further enhances the already accessible soundboard album's quality. Unlike "GET YER YA-YA'S OUT!" (hereafter "GYYYO"), which was essentially an overdubbing and editing contest, the secret to its popularity was the ability to enjoy genuine live performances on a high-quality soundboard. Its main source was the audio from the film "GIMME SHELTER." While the Madison Square Garden performance featured in the video is now available in full-length versions on "MADISON SQUARE GARDEN 1969 DAY 1" and "DAY 2," the overlapping sections have been given a more robust stereo mix, allowing for enjoyment as a truly "alternate mix." This means that its value has not diminished. With the exception of a few sections, the audio on "DAY 1" and "DAY 2" is primarily mono, and rather than multi-tracked like "GYYYO," it's possible that the original source was the mono audio recorded by the "GIMMEBSHELTER" film crew. In contrast, all MSG recordings on this disc are recorded in stereo, with the exception of "Little Queenie" from the first show on the 28th and "Carol" from the second show. These recordings are unoverdubbed, which continues to ensure their value. And best of all, even beginners can enjoy them with ease. Because the majority of the tracks are of official quality, very few areas required major overhauls. In fact, it could be said that only minor adjustments were required. The 1969 tour, already a hallmark of MSG, has established an unshakable reputation among enthusiasts. The many wonderful performances heard there are compiled with the highest quality sound and superb editing. Taking advantage of the overdubbing, Mick's overly strained singing and Keith's backing vocals, who only sang on "Honky Tonk Women" onstage, are incredibly effective on "GYYYO," opening tracks like "Jumping Jack Flash" and "Street Fighting Man." The unnaturalness of "GYYYO" is all the more noticeable when listening to the live recordings compiled under this title. Another major attraction contributing to the album's high praise is the extensive selection of bonus tracks. These include "Carol," originally included as a bonus on the VHS version of "GIMME SHELTER," and other tracks that are now considered rare even on official releases. The fact that all of the tracks were recorded on soundboards further contributes to their popularity. The final recording, recorded in Detroit, was shot by a local TV station using a black-and-white handheld video camera, which was recently introduced, and was later broadcast on the news. The mono quality, which tends to be a bit rougher than other tracks, has been fine-tuned. However, as this was the stage three days before MSG, the performance here was also excellent, with Taylor playing some amazing phrases in particular on "Satisfaction." This masterpiece, which brings together the dark and wild performances unique to the '69 tour, which were corrected in the official "GYYYO," with the same stereo soundboard quality, has been re-released with a new title. The previous title, which was unpopular for being too simple (lol), has been changed to "STONED 1969," which is more like the '69 tour. If you want to listen to the '69 US tour on a soundboard other than "GYYYO," start with this! Remastering notes: Phase correction (especially on track 3, "Carol"). Note that track 9, "Little Queenie," was originally pseudo-stereo processed specifically for this title. Volume adjustments have been made in various places (from the beginning to tracks 7 and 14 and 15). Other improvements include the removal of small noises and high-frequency noise.
