Starting in 1969, when they produced the Stones' first ever bootleg "LIVER THAN," they have performed live in Oakland many times during their American tours. In 1989, there were no items in such past Auckland performances. This year, they used the same Alameda County Coliseum as in 1969 (in addition, there was a near miss on the date), and two performances were held. Of course, audience recordings were left for both performances. Despite this, there is a reason why no items have appeared until now. First of all, neither of them were of excellent class quality, and furthermore, there were defects in the recordings on both days. Still, there is no doubt that it is the missing link in the 1989 tour. Therefore, as a result of carefully examining these sound sources for this release, November 4th, the first day, was selected. As mentioned earlier, this sound source is not of a quality that can be called excellent. However, there are many sound sources of this level that have not yet been released on the 1989 tour. In other words, it was difficult not only to use large venues but also to secure a good position for taper recording because it was a Stones revival tour and attracted a lot of attention. This is an issue that we have touched on every time we release the 1989 tour sound source, but compared to the 1989 tour items from our store such as the past Shea Stadium and the recent Foxboro and Atlanta. It is true that the sound quality is a notch lower. In such a situation, the reliable sound source collector "Krw_co" is based on the version released on the internet with the latest transfer. As a weak point regarding the audience recording on this day, first of all, the fricative sound of the microphone entered in several places. It's a blessing in disguise that it wasn't in a state where it hit hard, but it's a negative point because it can't be called the sound quality of an honor student class to begin with. This release alleviates this issue as much as possible. Of course, it is impossible to eliminate everything, but it has evolved into a much calmer state. Another minus is the cut due to the cassette change that occurred during the performance of “Dead Flowers” and “Brown Sugar”. Moreover, in the former case, even the fricative sound of the microphone is included. Since there is no other sound source, we managed to alleviate such cut points by editing them so that they are less noticeable. And the area around the taper is noisy from beginning to end, and the sound image of the performance has a sense of distance, but that is the great appeal of this sound source. After all, this day was a spectacular event. It's a little different from the noisy, realistic feeling that is common in American concert recordings. The enthusiasm of the audience, who had been waiting for the Stones' first American tour since 1981, was rather exciting to listen to than it was jarring. In addition, the fact that the venue announcement was captured before the opening BGM "Continental Drift" was played makes it even more exciting. In the first place, the masterpiece Auckland 1994 box released by our store also captured the special excitement in the same place, but on this day it even exceeded that. I hope that you have understood from this point that even though this sound source cannot be called excellent, it is a sound source that is quite worth listening to. However, what makes it even more fun is the huge chorus that broke out during "Mixed Emotions," which became the Stones' revival song at the time. No matter how much the Stones escaped the crisis of disbanding, it is rare in America to see such excitement with new songs released by the Stones after 1989. This song served as a trigger, and the chorus continued to escalate with songs such as "Honky Tonk Women" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want." Among them, in the latter part, not only the chorus part where Mick encourages the chorus, but a tremendous chorus from the beginning. However, the balance is not so great that it blocks out the performance, so if you listen to it with headphones, you will be truly overwhelmed by the sense of realism. And above all, the performance of the Stones, which has received such excitement, is also very high voltage. The repertoire at the end of the live show, starting with "Brown Sugar," shows the excitement of the interaction between the audience and the band reaching its maximum. It's natural to hear a huge chorus of "Yeah yeah whoop!" from the same song, and when it came to "Satisfaction", the excitement was so great that even Mick responded with an extremely high-tension shout, which made it one of the top three on the American tour. It has been elevated to an undeniable masterpiece. Indeed, in terms of sound quality, it may not be said that it is an audience recording with excellent clarity and sound pressure. However, I don't think there is any other 1989 American tour that showed such a strong rise. Be sure to listen to it with headphones and fully experience the excitement of the first day of Auckland 1989! Oakland Alameda County Coliseum, Oakland, CA.
