Exactly 10 years ago, a CD called "5TH NIGHT AT MSG 1975" was released from the Stones' 1975 American tour. Madison Square on June 26th, which had previously only been available on CD (VGP label's ``WELCOME BACK TO NEW YORK''), which was a high-quality but unevenly recorded recording of only the second half of the show.・It was a valuable audience recording that revealed the whole story of the garden performance for the first time. However, despite the high historical value of this sound source, which made it possible to listen to the entire show, it is true that the sound quality was never at an easy-to-listen level. Above all, the distortion that increased as the show progressed was the biggest drawback of this sound source, and it increased to a level that finally made you feel stressed from the songs around Billy Preston. Interestingly, this year, exactly 10 years after the discovery of the sound source, a new audience recording of the June 26, 1975 MSG performance unexpectedly appeared on the Internet. A third sound source, so to speak. In addition, what was released was a collaboration between the familiar JEMS and Krw_co, a well-known taper in the net rare sound source world. Just like "5TH NIGHT AT MSG 1975" (hereinafter referred to as "already released version"), this time it is also a monaural audience recording, but the previously released version had an old-fashioned sound quality closer to the midrange, and above all, The one that had the big problem of distortion that I mentioned. Furthermore, the pitch increased from the middle of the show. This time's sound source has a completely different sound quality in that respect, and its great appeal is its freshness and clarity in the high range. This time as well, it is undeniable that the sound image is monaural and has a sense of distance, so it is unsatisfactory in terms of clearness, but at least the recording state is much more audible than the previously released editions, which suffered from the dilemma of distortion. In fact, there was no need to modify the sound quality for this release, and the pitch was accurate and did not require any adjustment. JEMS and Krw_co pay particular attention to the pitch before releasing their sound sources, so this is to be expected. Regarding cuts that occurred during recording, “Ain't Too Proud To Beg” and Billy Preston's two songs were compensated for on the already released version. If you listen to those parts, you will realize that this sound source is overwhelmingly easier to listen to. Also, the cuts that occurred in "It's Only Rock'n Roll" or two songs in the latter half of the show were remastered from the VGP board and compensated for. Of course, it would be better if a full-length version of this sound source, which boasts exceptionally high sound quality, appeared, but judging from the fact that there is still no sign of such a thing even after more than 20 years since the appearance of the VGP version, this is still the best. The other parts may not have been recorded. Therefore, I think the appearance of this sound source is of great value. And in terms of performance, MSG performances in 1975 are known to be uneven in performance depending on the day. Considering that such a consistent high voltage was maintained (even if it was due to cocaine) during the consecutive LA Forum performances about three weeks later, it seems that there was a gap in the unevenness of the performance at MSG in 1975. That's strange. The sound source proves that the Stones in the United States, which had peaked at MSG in 1969 and 1972, were overwhelmingly at their best in LA in 1975. Regarding June 26th, "Wild Horses" was omitted, and even "Sympathy For The Devil", which was supposed to be played at MSG's encore, was also omitted, making it clear that before the final day of MSG's consecutive performances, "Don't overdo it. ” A setlist that feels set for the day. However, when you open the lid, most of the performances are surprisingly high voltage. First of all, in the first half of the show, Mick’s upper tension is clear, and this area is exactly like the 1975 tour. At the same time, the excitement of the venue was also captured. For example, the MSG performance on June 22nd, which is famous for Eric Clapton's appearance, was not only lackluster in other performances, but it was also a day when the excitement at the venue was surprisingly lackluster. . If you think about it, this one feels more like 1975, and even more exciting like the Stones at MSG. However, I was surprised to find that the tempo of ``Fingerprint File'' seems to be sluggish, as if it was out of breath. The atmosphere is completely different compared to the performance in LA, which can now be easily seen and heard officially. The momentum is lost as the performance progresses, so what happened to this? However, as if Billy Preston's two songs were a breather, 1975's Hyper Stones exploded again with "Midnight Rambler". In particular, the rhythm section, mainly Charlie and Ollie Brown's upper-cuts, until the performance slows down, is incredibly powerful, and I think this is the best song of the same song from MSG in 1975. That's what I think. The sound source this time will never reach the high quality level of the VGP board sound source. However, compared to “5TH NIGHT AT MSG 1975”, it is true that the sound quality allows you to enjoy the fun of the performance on June 26th. What's more, it was a day when the stagnant "Fingerprint File" and the explosive "Midnight Rambler" were played together. And 10 years have passed since the release of "5TH NIGHT ~", and there are many enthusiasts who have never heard this performance. It is a day where you can enjoy the fun of 75 years, which is different from that wild LA performance. Moreover, please try the new sound source of the day when you heard a particularly interesting performance in the uneven 1975 MSG!
