At the beginning of the Rolling Stones' 1978 US tour, they performed at theater-class venues, which became a hot topic. The most famous of these was "GARDEN STATE 78" at the Capitol Theater in Passaic on June 14th. About a week later, they performed a theater gig at the Palladium Theater in New York. The famous Palladium for the Stones is Hollywood in 1972, but this one is in New York. With the release of the album "Women," which was described as a return to the origins in terms of sound, perhaps they were trying to return to the origins in terms of the size of the venue. There is a mono audience recording of that precious Palladium theater gig. This never saw the light of day in the analog era, but surprisingly it was released on CD in the 21st century. This was a typical vintage audience, and it was released as "NEW YORK PALLADIUM." Although it was a release that was enough to please enthusiasts in that it released the precious 1978 theater gig, it seems that it was based on a master that was in a considerably fallen state, and not only the vintage texture of the previous one, but also the fact that the tape damage was seen everywhere was a big stress. Because of that, the only sound source that existed was the previously released version, but this time, a trader provided us with a higher-level master in a much better condition. In the first place, the previously released version had a strong sound swell from the opening announcement and the following "Let It Rock", but here there is no such problem at all, and the stability is obvious at first listen. In addition, the upper feeling and natural feeling of the sound quality itself are overwhelming. Although it is strictly within the scope of the vintage audience, if you are an enthusiast who has heard the previously released version, you will feel that these points alone make it much easier to listen to. The stability of the sound source itself is completely different, so there is no uneven rotation in "Miss You", which was the biggest stress in the already released version, and no swell in the next "Just My Imagination", and we guarantee that it is easy to listen to and can be said to be in another dimension. And yet, the pitch has been adjusted well, so it has finally evolved into a state that enthusiasts can enjoy. With this overwhelming sense of stability, in addition to the chaotic feeling unique to the beginning of the 1978 tour, the charm of the performance that combines the intimacy unique to theater gigs is abundantly conveyed. The momentum of the performance throughout the whole is full of the 1978 tour, but it accelerates even more when it comes to the second disc. "Shattered", which starts with Mick's scream, is a scene that can be called 1978, and the ending of "Tumbling Dice" and "Happy", which seem to have suddenly braked the momentum of the performance, is a masterpiece. This roughness is also very 1978 tour-like. Of course, the performance is great, but the recording also conveys a sense of realism that is characteristic of a theater. It is also interesting that the surrounding audience responded favorably to the new song "Women" from the beginning of the show. Is this the only day in 1978 that people were expecting the country tune "Far Away Eyes," which Mick said was "very unpopular," even before the performance began? In addition, the applause at the end of Ronnie's solo in "Love In Vain" is a theater-like harmonious feeling. And as with the already released version, the end includes "Don't Look Back" by Peter Tosh, who was the opening act. Of course, Mick's pre-show appearance, which can be called a 1978 specialty, is also realized here, and you can enjoy watching him duet with Tosh. Again, the sound quality is a mono vintage audience, and the sound source has a weak tape vibration. However, the upper feeling is incomparable to the previous releases, and the hurdle of the precious 1978 theater gig has been lowered!
