June 27th marked the finale of The Rolling Stones' 1975 Madison Square Garden series. Two audience recordings of this day, each with exceptional sound quality, were released on LP in the 1980s. Both were stereo and of the highest quality for 1975 audiobooks. However, the CD era saw the release of a recording featuring periodic screams from a female duo who persistently requested "Satisfaction" throughout the show, a characteristic that earned it the nickname "Satisfaction Sisters." While the stereo spread made for a very enjoyable sound, what really stood out was another audience recording, heard only on the "HOLD ON TIGHT" LP. This was because the sound image was closer and more powerful, initially giving the illusion of a soundboard. Despite the major drawback of being pressed at a high pitch, "HOLD ON TIGHT" was historically released first. However, because the original recording of the "Satisfaction Sisters" was already in circulation, the VGP label released "Discover New York" as a first and second part on "PRESERVE FOR FUTURE," or released a version with the title and packaging of "HOLD ON TIGHT" but the contents were "Satisfaction Sisters." The original recording of "HOLD ON TIGHT" itself was not in circulation, and although LP-like items that focused on this were released in the early 1990s, they were not well-established, and for a long time, "Satisfaction Sisters" continued to dominate the final day of MSG. The 2008 CD release, "THE ORIGINAL HOLD ON TIGHT," thoroughly addressed the shortcomings of "HOLD ON TIGHT," including the high pitch and scratch noise inherent to LPs. Inspired by this release, a second "HOLD ON TIGHT" was released, incorporating a DAC from the original LP. However, the sound quality was significantly different from the original, and the stereo effect was mysteriously narrowed. Meanwhile, "THE ORIGINAL HOLD ON TIGHT" also had its own issues, such as shortening the gaps between tracks and fitting them onto two discs. More than a decade has passed since those releases, and GRAF ZEPPELIN has thoroughly reworked the two "HOLD ON TIGHT" LP reissues to address the issues and flaws that were left unaddressed, resulting in the definitive release, "HOLD ON TIGHT," released in 2023. In fact, the production was so impressive that pitch correction and missing sections were naturally filled in with "Satisfaction Sisters," and yet the "Rip This Joint" from MSG's 24th performance, which was featured on the original LP, was included as a bonus track at the end of the third disc. Owners of the original LP or "The Original Hold On Tight" will likely recognize the noticeable tape warping on tracks like the quieter "Angie," which was evident in the triangle sound. However, GRAF ZEPPELIN thoroughly addressed even these issues. The 2023 edition boasted such exquisite perfection that it became a huge bestseller, selling out even after multiple restocks. Two years later, in response to overwhelming demand, this classic recording capturing the final day of MSG in 1975 has been re-released. While the 2023 edition was already a complete production, GRAF ZEPPELIN made some fine adjustments before re-releasing it. Enjoy the excellent sound quality of "Sympathy For The Devil," featuring Carlos Santana on bass, and the rare live performance of "Cherry Oh Baby," both of which were unreleased. The long-awaited re-release of "HOLD ON TIGHT," a timeless 1975 Stones classic, rivals the final performance at the LA Forum! While there's some mid-range correction, the previous release was mastered with a focus on balance, so there was no room for change. If you don't own the previous release, this is a must-have! Previous Release Details: Based on the analog LP "HOLD ON TIGHT" (CS-MSG-75), missing sections were filled in with other sources, resulting in the first complete, non-stop recording of all tracks, albeit in a pseudo-like format. Previous releases using a similar method featured sloppy editing between tracks, omissions, editing errors, and fake processing, making this the first complete, non-stop recording. This release also respects the expansive sound of the analog record. The previously released DAC version was slightly (approximately 30%) more mono, perhaps to center the performance. Scratch noise was carefully and painstakingly removed with pinpoint precision. No software was used to selectively process the entire waveform at once (which would result in an artificial sound). While there was noticeable hiss in the left channel in many areas of the original recording, processing was kept to a minimum. Because the pitch was not consistent, it was adjusted appropriately. Tape vibration (wow and flutter) was also partially corrected. Angie's Triangle (?) etc. The bonus track "Rip This Joint" is from the 24th, which was included on the vinyl record. The pitch has been corrected. Taken from the 3LP "HOLD ON TIGHT" (CS-MSG-75) Madison Square Garden, New York City, NY, USA 27th June 1975 TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc 1 (52:50) 1.
