March 2003, exactly 15 years ago. The Rolling Stones turned the "illusion of 1973" into reality. This is a superb video set that compiles the scenes of the 2003 tour, starting with the one and only performance at Nippon Budokan in the history of the Stones. This work contains three performances. It is a three-disc set of full audience shots of "March 10, 2003: Nippon Budokan", "March 12: Yokohama Arena", and "March 16: Tokyo Dome". First of all, let's start with the tour schedule at that time to revive the memories of 15 years ago. March 10: Nippon Budokan [Disc 1] March 12: Yokohama Arena [Disc 2] March 15: Tokyo Dome March 16: Tokyo Dome [Disc 3] March 20: Osaka Dome March 21: Osaka Dome All six performances. This year's visit to Japan was in conjunction with the 40th anniversary best album "FORTY LICKS". It was a tour in which the set was changed between clubs, arenas, and stadiums, and rare songs were played in clubs and arenas. This work is a three-disc set that allows you to see the scenery of three different venues, the arena performance "Nippon Budokan" and "Yokohama Arena", and the stadium performance "Tokyo Dome". (The Budokan is an arena in size, but the set list was treated as a club.) [Disc 1: Nippon Budokan (March 10th)] The first to appear is the legendary Nippon Budokan performance, which should be said to be a symbol of 2003. This is a video that allows you to witness the full scene that became a reality 30 years after the "illusion of 1973". The existence of the show itself is heartwarming, but the quality is also moving. The best thing about it is the camera work. All the footage in this work is the representative footage that was talked about at the time, but this work is particularly amazing. It was shot from the first floor stand seats in front of the stage, and the spacious field of view with zero obstructions is exquisite. From there, he makes extensive use of bold zooms, and at the most up-close shots, Mick's upper body takes up the entire screen. And the way he captures the highlights is amazing. The photographer is definitely a big fan of the Stones, and he knows Mick's movements and the highlights of each song. Even the timing of a single zoom is perfect. Even if he follows Mick up close, he pulls back firmly just before the moment when "Keith's guitar comes here!" and lines up the two of them on the screen. On the other hand, even if Mick is not singing, he zooms in tightly to capture the scenes where he is entangled with the dancers, and does not move them out of the center. The same goes for stage direction. For example, "Honky Tonk Women." An erotic animation is played in which a woman reaches orgasm while riding under the trademark rodeo, but he waits for it in the center in advance and shows it to you. Anyway, the spirit of "Leave the one and only Nippon Budokan perfectly!" overflows from the screen, and it is a magnificent camerawork that runs through the entire film. The show depicted with that quality is truly legendary. Mick's "I'm so happy to come to Tokyo again. My first time at the Budokan" alone is enough to bring tears to your eyes. As mentioned above, there are more rare songs at arena venues, but the Nippon Budokan had the most "songs only for this day". It's a masterpiece video that is easy to watch even for those who are not familiar with it, and the more you feel attached to it, the more intense it becomes. *Songs only for this day: "Live With Me", "No Expectations", "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love", "Worried About You", "Rock Me Baby" [Disc 2: Yokohama Arena (March 12th)] Next is the Yokohama performance at the arena on the second day. This video was taken from the stand on the right side of the stage (Keith's side), and the position was right next to the B stage set up in the middle of the venue. As expected, the position is not as free as the ideal Nippon Budokan, but you can see that they skillfully circumvent the arms and heads of the front row and use their ingenuity to hold the stage to the fullest. The boldness of the zoom and the way it captures the highlights are impressive, and the way Mick's upper body occupies the screen is a great image that is close to the Nippon Budokan. The footage becomes even more impressive towards the end of the show. They move to the B stage, which was not at the Nippon Budokan, and play three songs, "Mannish Boy," "When The Whip Comes Down," and "Brown Sugar." The scene is truly spectacular. There are no shadows in the front row, and above all, the distance is close! Since they are right next to him, they don't often turn to face us, but instead there are many scenes where they are lined up with Keith and Ron. The voltage in the venue also rises sharply, and these three songs are exquisite images that may even surpass the Nippon Budokan, which was his masterpiece. The show depicted with that quality is also wonderful. There were only three songs that were only performed on that day, which was fewer than at the Nippon Budokan, but Yokohama had more songs that changed every day, such as "When The Whip Comes Down," which was only performed twice, and "Monkey Man," "All Down The Line," "Happy," and "Mannish Boy," which were all performed three times. *Songs that were only performed on this day: "If You Can't Rock Me," "Ruby Tuesday," and "Loving Cup." [Disc 3: Tokyo Dome (March 16th)] The third video is the second day at Tokyo Dome, which was the last in the Kanto region. The first two performances were "work-like" videos that took advantage of the view from the stands, but this one is a shot looking up from the arena seats. Rather, it is an experiential video that gives a real feel of the enthusiasm of the special seats. The best part is the closeness! Although the shot looking down from a distance lets you see every corner of the show, what many people want is a seat that is as close as possible. This video captures that feeling in full detail. The sound is also noteworthy. The sound in the two videos above was great, but the sound in this video is even better. Above all, because it is an arena seat, the vast enthusiasm surges from behind, and the performance and singing voice are strong and thick. The quality is a golden set unique to the stadium. Although "Angie" is the only song "only for this day", the performance is still one of a kind. In fact, it is a slightly dangerous show. The intro of "Brown Sugar" at the beginning is not sounded, so it feels like "What?", and Mick also makes a mistake in the composition of "It's Only Rock'n Roll". The intro of "Angie", which is supposed to be the highlight, is a little shaky. However, it is suspicious up to that point, and after that it becomes a wonderful concert. Also, a little interesting is before entering Keith's "Slipping Away". Ron is picking out his solo song "Mystifies Me" and says, "Stop, I've got want to do (Stop it. I'm going to do it)". The audience laughed at the joke, which was probably a reference to Ron's solo album "I'VE GOT MY OWN ALBUM TO DO". It's hard to tell that Ron is playing in this video because there are cuts, but you can clearly feel this voice and the mood of the venue. The royal Tokyo Dome, Yokohama with its rare arena atmosphere, and Nippon Budokan, where illusions have turned into reality... This video set brings back the days 15 years ago with the best scenes. This is a must-see product for this memorable anniversary in March.
