Among the multi-track recording rough mixes of the 1981 tour, which were excavated in large quantities nearly 10 years ago, the series at Rosemont Horizon in Illinois was as popular as the East Rutherford series. “CHICAGO 1981”, which includes the first day of the album, January 23rd, was a masterpiece that sold out shortly after its release. The secret to its popularity is that it is not only recorded with the highest sound quality that can only be achieved with multi-track recording, but also captures the entire live performance of the day without the cuts of each performance or song that occurred in most of the series of sound sources that appeared at that time. . Nearly 10 years have passed since then, and this week, this masterpiece will be re-released at the same time as "EAST RUTHERFORD 1981 1ST NIGHT". First of all, the title of the previous release was "CHICAGO 1981", but this time it has been changed to "ROSEMONT 1981 1ST NIGHT". This means that, like "TEMPE 1981," the name was renamed to reflect the actual location. The venue for this event, the Rosemont Horizon, was located near Chicago, so up until now it had tended to be tied to the same venue, but in reality it is located in Rosemont, not Chicago, even though it is in the same state of Illinois. This title also reflected the same situation as “TEMPE 1981” which was not actually Phoenix. When the multi-track recording rough mix of this day was released at the time, it had the drawback that Keith and Ronnie's localization was flipped in the early stages of the live performance, but that was firmly adjusted when released in 2012. The secret to its popularity was that it was now possible to listen to the highest quality sound source with peace of mind. In addition, the sound source of this day had the charm of a rough mix that was different from East Rutherford, and it was also the vivid presence of Keith and Ronnie's two guitars. Therefore, correcting the localization was an essential condition for release. Of course, in the interlude of "Neighbours," Ernie Watts' saxophone solo was almost inaudible, and there was a rough mix-like feel to it in another sense. After all, the charm of enjoying the balance and freshness of the two guitars, which are the essence of the Stones' live sound, as if they were pushed out, is great. On the other hand, there were no other problems with the sound source, and this time there was no need for a new overhaul (also in charge of Graf Zeppelin) than “EAST RUTHERFORD 1981 ~”. Then, in November of the 1981 tour, Mick changed to a more relaxed style of singing, thinking that his throat wouldn't hold up as the tour continued. RUTHERFORD 1981 ~'' had the remains of Mick's mischievous singing style, and was also a record of a time when there was a sense of haphazard performance. However, around the time of the Cedar Falls performance held three days before Rosemont Horizon, the feeling of confusion subsided, and the band began to play faster and with a higher degree of perfection than before. Regarding this first day of Rosemont, there are wonderful performances that can be called exactly such a sharpened day. The sense of speed is clear from beginning to end, and thanks to the rawness of the guitar from this rough mix, you can clearly see the two's performance becoming more and more passionate. Therefore, "Let Me Go" etc. are full throttle. This speedy performance can be said to be a typical scene where the 81 tour reached the next level. Thanks to this, the scene where Mick forgets the lyrics at the beginning of "Tumbling Dice" and starts singing by mixing up the words doesn't seem negative at all, but rather it looks like a funny scene with excess energy. Anyway, the completeness of the overall performance is very high, and before the encore, "Jumping Jack Flash", Keith pulls the band with the strongest sense of speed. Although they are representative sound sources of the same November, East Rutherford has a wild performance and Rosemont has a well-honed performance. Such a contrasting masterpiece and great sound source will be revived after a long time! REMASTER & CHECKED BY GRAF ZEPPELIN (Remaster Memo) Phase correction only. Everything else is fine from the beginning. It seems like it was originally a rough mix, and Mick's vocals are on the right until the beginning of "Let's Spend." However, since the performance other than the vocals is not biased, this is not a phase problem, but seems to be a rough mix like this to begin with.
