Using the LP soundboard as the main focus, gaps are filled in with video audio, and any remaining gaps are supplemented with multiple audience sequences, including LPs, creating a pseudo-complete live recording! It's a near-nonstop recording! Everyone loves the Rolling Stones' 1976 Knebworth concert. However, when the crucial leaked multi-track recording was released on CD, the sound quality deteriorated. As a result, even though it was a stereo soundboard from a highly popular live performance, it was faced with the dilemma of never being able to surpass the quality of the LP. Released twice over the New Year's holiday period, "HOT AUGUST NIGHT" was a meticulous reissue of the original LP reissue by GRAF ZEPPELIN. Not only did it achieve a clean CD from the LP, but it also thoroughly eliminated the pitch instability that was the soundboard's biggest drawback, making it a groundbreaking release. Now that the best of the SBD parts have finally been released on CD, the next big thing is naturally a complete Knebworth recording. While a popular recording, it's true that the SBD portion deviated from the full live performance. Furthermore, the poor editing of previously released Knebworth complete titles, and especially the severe deterioration of the SBD portion, led to a desire for a new edited item. The groundbreaking VGP release "HOT AUGUST NIGHT" achieved the longest total SBD recording by utilizing the mono audio from video footage recently unearthed at the time from the Midnight Beat Knebworth release for the unrecorded multi-track portions. Naturally, Audio was used for the missing parts. While the Shaved Disc, which was appreciated by enthusiasts as the first Audio Knebworth release in an era dominated by SBDs, was heavily relied upon, the audio portion of the old LP "STONES TOUR MOP UP!" was used to supplement the SBD-heavy tracks "Stray Cat Blues" and "Brown Sugar" toward the end of the live performance. When VGP was released in 1997, software wasn't available that allowed for precise editing like it is today, and while it was a groundbreaking release, it's true that there were many areas that weren't fully explored. Using VGP as a base, SODD's "HOT AUGUST NIGHT" further edited the gaps between songs that had been rough. While innovative approaches like re-adding the MC before "Stray Cat Blues" with video audio and filling in the harsh beeps in "You Gotta Move," which were likely caused by a mobile phone malfunction, with Audio were used, the sense of incongruity felt when switching from SBD to loud Audio clapping was unavoidable. And most importantly, the increased volume and equalization made the sound quality of the SBD parts even more harsh. In preparation for this release, I listened to those two previous titles again, and the sound quality of the SBD parts was, well, rough. On the LP, the hissing noise has evolved into a buzzing, breathing noise, which can be heard at the same level as the performance itself on tracks like "Little Red Rooster" and "Fool To Cry." A new complete release based on the clear LP is surely eagerly awaited. Now, GRAF ZEPPELIN has embarked on the creation of a new, truly complete Knebworth release. The audio has been thoroughly reworked to complement the SBD portion of the previous release, and the studio has gone all the way back to past LP releases. While the previous two titles were primarily based on CD-era sound sources, this time the audio has returned to the LP source, capturing the entire live performance in even greater clarity than before. While "Stray Cat Blues" was once again covered with the "STONES TOUR MOP UP!" disc, the second half of the concert, from "Happy" onward, featured a cross-dressing cover (Knebworth LPs don't have very good covers, do they? lol), and the familiar "STONED STONES" LP was used. This item was also praised in the nostalgic "Takarajima Stones Bootleg Book" as "the easiest to listen to on Knebworth Audio," and above all, the close vocals of Mick and Keith are easy to hear. It's a shame that this closeness led to distortion early in the concert, which is why it wasn't included in "Stray Cat Blues," but this makes the second half of the concert clearer and easier to hear than previous releases. Compared to this LP, the Shaved Disc source has a more distant sound, and this time it's only used to fill in the gaps between songs. Furthermore, the harsh beeps on "You Gotta Move," a chronic issue with SBD, have been smoothed out with smooth video audio, making it far more listenable than previous releases. The highlight is a three-minute skip in "Hey Negrita," a track that's been overlooked on previous releases. While this was a bit of a disappointment on previous releases, it's now fully included by filling in the gaps from "STONES TOUR MOP UP!". GRAF ZEPPELIN has thoroughly crafted this new, complete release, perfectly fitting the one enthusiasts worldwide have been waiting for. This is the ultimate Knebworth release! Focusing primarily on the LP soundboard, the missing bits are filled in with video audio, and any remaining gaps are supplemented with multiple audience sequences, including LPs, creating a pseudo-complete live recording. It's practically nonstop recording! The three vinyl versions are: Look At My Face (LP), Stones Tour Mop Up (2LP), and Stoned Stones (sides A-C of the 2LP). The VGP releases, often considered the best, are primarily SBs, not transcribed from LPs. However, the sound is quite rough, and the padding is weak, resulting in many gaps between songs, so I think there's a big difference this time. The SODD version, based on a VGP-146 copy, still has gaps, and the overall sound is very poor, with a seaweed waveform. The highly acclaimed Shaved CD seems to have noise reduction applied, and also feels cramped, so this time I only used it for a small amount of padding. (Note) On VGP146, the audio tracks from Brown onwards at the end are not Shaved but Mop Up LPs.
