The second part of the Babylon tour that we are releasing this time is the standard sound source from 1998, the San Diego broadcast sound source. The live show was recorded and broadcast by Westwood One, a radio station known for radio broadcasting major concerts in the United States. Due to the nature of the radio sound source being recorded on a stereo soundboard, various items were created immediately after it was broadcast. Among them, VGP's "STONED IN SAN DIEGO 1998" and Dandelion's "SAN DIEGO '98", which was finished with flashy equalization that was typical of the end of the 90s, were known as representative titles. Especially for the former, the second version, which was reissued from the first air check sound source based on the broadcast disc, is the best of this sound source. Regarding this release, we recently released the highest sound quality version based on the broadcast disc, and the high sound quality received unexpectedly positive reviews, which led to this release. At the time of "STONED IN ~", there are already items with the highest sound quality, and above all, since the original is a broadcast sound source disc, it does not reach the level of a dramatic upper sound quality change. However, the highest sound quality recorded straight from the radio show disc without equalization is still wonderful, and it is a new standard item of the classic sound source that allows you to enjoy the wonderful performance of the Stones who were about to perform in Japan with a perfect stereo soundboard recording. It will be. The 1998 Babylon Tour began with a reshuffling of the schedule due to Mick catching a cold. Nevertheless, January ended with a series of performances at Madison Square Garden, which has become an annual event since then, as well as performances in Hawaii, the first since 1973 (naturally, many Japanese people visited). It's dawning. At those performances, in order to further promote "BRIDGES TO BABYLON", songs from the album that had not been performed live until then were played, and rare numbers from the past were also played, which attracted a lot of attention. However, at their first live show in San Diego in February, it felt like those attempts had come to a halt, and they had returned to a normal business mode with radio recording in mind. That freedom exploded with “Flip The Switch”, which was also one of the songs representing the Babylon tour. The performance, which has regained its intensity compared to January when Mick was recovering from illness, is wonderful, and it seems to summarize the content of this day's live. As is well known, this broadcast sound source was broadcast in a rather unclear state with strong echoes (although it was much more decent than the one in New Orleans in 1994...), but the destructive power of this performance was still a spoiler. Not done. Also, as is the case with this song, Keith makes a few momentary mistakes, such as hitting the wrong chord on “Wanna Hold You.” Still, it's interesting that it was broadcast without being edited. Rather, it was just a happening that had too much momentum, and it didn't really make the impression of the performance bad. In addition to being enveloped in the echo mentioned above, a phenomenon unique to Westwood One's live broadcast is that narration enters at several places during the live performance, and from there it moves to a commercial break. As with past items, this time as well, all commercials have been cut before recording, but the announcements that appear here and there remain as they are. Moreover, Keith's little interview at the opening, which was cut in past items, is included along with the BGM "Low Down". These points may be said to be heretical among the many Stones radio broadcast live performances, but this time it was recorded in the most faithful form to the broadcast, and on top of that, it is a stereo soundboard recording of the highest sound quality!
