Five years have passed since the festival "DESERT TRIP" was held, which brought together a large number of artists. In the end, it was held only once in 2016, but the performances that unfolded there have not faded. Each artist had a different set list for the first and second weeks, which became a hot topic, but the Rolling Stones were the biggest topic of conversation. In particular, in the first week, they covered the Beatles' "Come Together," which surprised enthusiasts around the world. Since it was 2016, there were great quality audience recordings available in real time, and the popular "DESERT TRIP 2016 WEEKEND 1," which combined them, is nostalgic now. Among them, there are IEM sound sources, also known as in-ear monitor sound sources, and the masterpiece "DESERT TRIP 2016 WEEKEND 1: FRONT OF HOUSE MIX" has been released for Roger Waters' stage. However, there was actually an in-ear monitor recording of the Stones' stage, which was quietly released in 2018 under the title "GOT TO BE A JOKER". However, what made it difficult was that the title was released only on analog record. It could be said that it followed a similar distribution route to Pink Floyd's 1975 tour "CALIFORNIA SOUNDBOARD". In addition, it was released two years after the event, so it did not attract as much attention as expected. Since the original in-ear monitor recording has still not appeared four years later, it is possible that Taper, who recorded it, made this LP himself. In addition, due to the recording time constraint of one record, the stage on that day was not completely recorded, and only "Honky Tonk Women" was heard there. However, the condition of the in-ear monitor recording is quite excellent, and only the opening "Start Me Up" has a larger balance of bass and keyboard than guitar, which is a common balance for this type of recording, but fortunately, from "You Got Me Rocking" onwards, Keith and Ronnie also sound much louder, evolving into a Stones-like balance. This is a good sound source that can be enjoyed as a normal stereo soundboard recording. In that case, it would be a waste to let the precious in-ear monitor recording that can only be heard on LP, which was hardly available in Japan, be buried. The release will be realized with the utmost care from that LP. It is a pity that it is incomplete as mentioned earlier, but still, the highlight of the day's performance can be heard with great sound quality, which is a high point. First of all, "Mixed Emotions", which is a long-awaited live repertoire revival. Since it is a song that relies on Keith and Ronnie's guitars, it is exceptional to enjoy it with this magnificent stereo separation. Furthermore, Charlie's unique drumming. It's been a long time since we've played together, so it's a bit harsh to expect the same sharpness as in 1989, but listening to it with a clear sound source like this isn't bad. The song that caused the biggest buzz was "Come Together" by The Beatles. Although the performance had a Stones-like atmosphere, Mick made some mistakes in the lyrics because he was singing while looking at the teleprompter, and there was no part that he sang correctly throughout the song (bitter smile). You can enjoy his risky singing clearly. As mentioned at the beginning, the album only includes up to "Honky Tonk Women". However, if the remaining parts were all supplemented with Aud, it would be an incomplete composition with 60% of the two-disc set being taken up by that. We decided to make it a single disc that mainly uses in-ear monitor sound sources, and supplemented only the second half of the live performance with Aud from the "Scooter123" source from "DESERT TRIP 2016 WEEKEND 1". As was talked about at the time, the sound quality of this audience recording is good, and if you listen to it through the speakers, you won't feel any discomfort when it switches from in-ear monitors to Aud. And at the end, as a bonus, "You Can't Always Get What You Want" from the 2020 stay-at-home event, which was Charlie's last official performance while he was alive, is included. Since it was a remote performance, it's sad to see Charlie playing the air drums with a smile on his face. Of course, this is also a soundboard, so it can be said that the Stones' rare live sound sources in recent years have been compiled into one piece. The hidden precious sound source that allows you to enjoy "Mixed Emotions" and "Come Together" from the 2016 event, which now even reminds you of nostalgia, with a stereo soundboard feeling, is now available on CD for the first time! "Got Be A Joker" was only available on LP and never came to Japan. This time, it is the first CD release on a record. It's a wonderful in-ear monitor recording, and sounds like a normal stereo SBD.
