A long-awaited, almost-first-ever audience recording from The Rolling Stones' 1994 "VOODOO LOUNGE" tour has been unearthed! The reason I say "almost" is because only a few tracks from the second day of the Pasadena concert, which is being released this time, have been released in the past. The Pasadena concert in 1994 consisted of two performances, and three tracks from the second day's take were included on the bonus disc of the nostalgic three-disc box set "VOODOO LOUNGE TOUR MEMORIAL US TOUR EDITION," which primarily featured the audience recording from the first day. However, the audience recordings of the three songs heard there sounded distant, with the applause of the nearby audience sounding closer. Listening to them, it's easy to see why they're only meant to be bonus tracks. At the same time, it's a reminder of the incredibly exciting live performance that day. Nearly 30 years later, a new audience recording master from the second day of the Pasadena concert in 1994 has been released. This newly discovered audience recording was made by Marco Mohr, whose astounding recordings of post-ZEP live shows have astounded fans worldwide. Compared to the arena-class concerts he recorded for the ZEP solo shows in the 1980s, the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, chosen by the Stones in the 1990s, is a vast venue. While the soundscape wasn't as impressive as the ZEP solo shows, the sound quality is still clear and highly accessible. It's even more impressive than the bonus recordings featured on the "VOODOO LOUNGE TOUR MEMORIAL US TOUR EDITION." This is especially true for the complete audience recordings from the day, glimpsed only on the three bonus tracks. The consistently high pitch of Mohr's recordings has been meticulously adjusted for this CD release. Above all, the performance is outstanding. Just one month before the live broadcast from Miami, the hub of the 1994 US tour, this performance is truly at full throttle. The Pasadena performance from the first day, released 30 years ago, was fantastic, but this one was even better. The Miami performance was packed with so much, due to the broadcast nature of the event, and both Mick and Keith seemed overwhelmed during the first half of the show. However, three months into the tour, the second day in Pasadena was a delight to listen to, as they had reached a solid level. The relaxed performance reached its first peak with "Shattered." Mick sang with such high energy that you'd think they'd seize the opportunity to launch into "Rocks Off," but Keith suddenly began changing costumes, preventing the performance from starting even after Mick announced the song title. It was rather amusing to see Keith use his humor to fill the air with his MC. Above all, the appeal of this recording is that it demonstrates that the excitement of the day, as seen on the previously released albums, was truly incredible. The applause at the start of "Sympathy for the Devil" and the sudden surge of excitement during "Start Me Up" are both very satisfying. The Stones' performance, which was performed with ease, was supported by a superb audience. Not only is this the first recording of the Stones since the 1994 "VOODOO LOUNGE" tour, but the rich content, worthy of being called a buried masterpiece, is sure to satisfy enthusiasts. Marco Mohr has done it again! The sound quality and stability are outstanding. The taper is undoubtedly excellent. Rose Bowl, Pasadena, CA, USA 21st October 1994 TRULY PERFECT SOUND Disc:1 (68:47) 1.
