Roberta Flack was a great singer-songwriter who, although not particularly black, continued to lead the scene for a long time as a standard-bearer of intellectual new soul along with her close friend Donny Hathaway. In 1981, during the height of her power, she led a powerful group including Marcus Miller, and even had guest appearances by Stevie Wonder. This tribute album features a high-quality soundboard recording of a superb live performance by Flack, recorded in 1981, during her most productive year! This work was recorded on March 30, 1981, just before the recording of one of Roberta's masterpieces, "I'm the One," released in 1982, at Park West in Chicago, Illinois. The recording members included Marcus Miller, McCoy Tyner, Nat Adderley, Carla Bley, before his big break with the Miles Davis comeback band, as well as Buddy Williams, a famous drummer known for participating in many famous albums by David Sanborn, Grover Washington, Joe Sample, and Barry Miles, the best jazz/fusion keyboard player known to those in the know, and Stevie Wonder as a guest. This is a complete recording of the best live performance on a superb high-quality soundboard! ! The concert featured the best set list of Roberta Flack's history, including her signature songs "Sing Me Tenderly" and "Sigh of Love," as well as Stevie Wonder's "You Are My Heaven," a track from her 1980 duo album with Donny Hathaway that was supposed to be the second of her duets. On the album, it was a duet with Danny, but here, you can hear it as a duet with Stevie, the composer! Roberta Flack's music, which cannot be categorized into one genre, is a mixture of all genres of music, including the gospel music of Sam Cooke that she watched as a child, as well as jazz, rock, R&B, soul, and classical music, and is filled with a mysterious charm that makes it seem as if this is its own unique character. The great singer-songwriter Roberta Flack, who is supported by a wider fan base than soul fans who seek "blackness", has a definitive live performance from her prime, recorded completely on a superb high-quality soundboard. This is the ultimate memorial album for you!
