Ritchie Blackmore in 1997, when RAINBOW in the 90's ended and he stopped playing hard rock. This week, two collections that mark the countdown to the end will be released simultaneously. This work is the first of two simultaneous releases in the 1997 collection. This is an excellent audience recording of "February 22, 1997 West Springfield Performance". In the 1990s, RAINBOW, which started with Doogie White in 1995, conducted a world tour mainly in Europe, but it was not until 1997, when they were about to disband, that they went to North America. I will leave the collection arrangement of the last tour to the explanation of "TORONTO 1997" which will be released at the same time, and here I will review the entire activity. 1995《August release of “The Solitary Stranger”》・September 30th – November 4th: Europe #1 (25 performances)・November 11th – 23rd: Japan (9 performances) 1996・June 27th Sunday-July 7th: South America (8 performances) July 21st-August 11th: Europe #2 (13 performances) [Chuck Berghi leaves → John Miceli joins] 1997 February 20th-3 May 19th: North America (18 performances) ←★Here★・May 31st: Denmark (final performance) [RAINBOW disbanded → BLACKMORE'S NIGHT started] This is the whole picture of RAINBOW in the 90s. Basically, we were active with the same five people as the performance in Japan, but only in 1997, the drummer was changed to John Miceli. After a mid-sized North American tour and a festival appearance in Denmark, it fell apart. This work is the beginning of that end. This was the third concert of the "North American" leg. This work, which is a vacuum-packed version of such a show, is an exquisite recording with an amazing direct feeling of a powerful core. The chanting and applause also sound like a vivid audience recording, but the vividness is line-level. Both the vocals and the guitar have beautiful clear contours, and even the whispering tone is clear. On the other hand, even when it explodes into fortissimo, it has a wonderful luster that doesn't scare you. You could say it's the feeling of being in a closed room that only a club can have, but it's a strong feeling of ``RAINBOW being right in front of you''. And, the greatest beauty of this work is the drum sound. This is already super delicate, vivid and powerful! There is no doubt that if the bass wasn't so off, it would have been remastered... It's such an honorable mention recording that "there's nothing bad about it, but it's already a bit!" Moreover, this drum sound fits perfectly with the significance of the show. As mentioned above, this work is a show immediately after the drummer was replaced by Miceli. That's why they are still in a growth process that they are not yet fully accustomed to. Please do not read ``growth process'' as ``sloppy/boring.'' It's true that the ensemble still has a long way to go, but on the other hand, the hustle of a newcomer is amazing. There is a lot of enthusiasm in trying out his own fills in each song and making Richie and the fans approve. The hardware crash is especially delicious. Just like Cozy Powell, it's dramatic and powerful. And Richie, perhaps impressed by Miceli's passionate performance, also showed off his enthusiasm. They also played “Hall of the Mountain King,” which was rare in 1997, and the encore included not only the promised “Burn” but also “Woman From Tokyo,” “OJ (Hey Joe),” and “Smoke On The Water.” Finally, let's organize such a full set. RAINBOW Classics Ronnie era: Long Live Rock 'n' Roll/Man On The Silver Mountain Joe era: Spotlight Kid/Difficult To Cure Solitary Stranger Wolf To The Moon/Still I'm Sad/Black Masquerade/Ariel/Hall of the Mountain King Others ・DEEP PURPLE: Mistreated/Perfect Strangers/Woman From Tokyo/Burn/Smoke On The Water (★) ・Others: Blues (★)/OJ (Hey Joe) *Note: “★” indicates simultaneous release A song that can't be heard on ``TORONTO 1997.'' In 1997, the band's condition began to vary between good and bad, but in the early stages it was on the "good" side. Although they are not used to it, it was a wonderful full show that filled the venue with the enthusiasm of a restart with a new lineup. This is a live album that allows you to closely experience the scene of such a club. Although it is not a super rare song or top quality, it is an indispensable piece for those who want to hear as many of the fiery Richie performances as possible. Exquisite audience recording of "February 22, 1997 West Springfield Performance". The direct feel of the powerful core is line-level, and the clear outline of both vocals and guitar is beautiful, and even the whispering tone is clear. The drums are also super delicate, vivid and powerful. It's a great recording with a strong sense of ``RAINBOW being right in front of you'', rather than the feeling of being in a closed room unique to a club. Immediately after the drummer was replaced by John Miceli, the ensemble is still growing, but the hustle of a newcomer is amazing. Although it is heading towards collapse, you can experience a full show that combines the freshness of the new lineup.
