This is a high quality recording of the performance at Osaka Welfare Pension Hall on January 21, 1975, from the Japan tour accompanying the album "Jitetsu Tanken" (Chiden Tanken). Although the opening is a shortcoming of being recorded with a cut-in, the vividness, punch and dynamism of the sound are at the highest level, and it is a must-have for fans that will surprise many enthusiasts around the world. In addition to his own rock band (English Rock Ensemble), the Japanese orchestra (Chambre Symphoniet) and the Tokyo Broadcasting Chorus also participated, and the London Symphonic Orchestra's permanent conductor David Measham and the Royal Shakespeare Company actor Terry Tublin acted as narrator. This huge rock concert by a total of 79 people was widely covered by the general media at the time, and the Japan tour, which consisted of four performances in Tokyo, one in Osaka, and one in Nagoya, was highly praised in each area. In the second part, "Underground Exploration," a volcano backdrop was raised behind the stage, and a special monster appeared to excite the audience. "Sakura" was inserted in the representative song Catherine Howard, but of course, this is an arrangement only for Japan. Even if you listen to it now, it doesn't feel old at all, and it is a dramatic concert that will remain in the history of Japanese concerts, which can be said to be universal, and is reproduced with an ideal sound image. This is a two-disc set that includes Rick Wakeman's first solo performance in Japan after leaving Yes, and the Osaka performance on January 21, 1975. The sound is mono, but it is clear and captures the overall picture of the concert with many sounds. There is little deterioration of the sound, and above all, I am happy that there is no sound fluctuation. The Japan tour at this time was scheduled for four days in Tokyo, two days in Osaka, and one day in Nagoya, including additional performances, and since it was a formation with all orchestras and choruses, it was a large-scale event that could not be contained in the framework of a simple rock artist. This work was the last day of the Osaka concert, and both the band and the orchestra were in perfect condition, so it is close to the best of Rick's many concerts. In particular, the first part, which is filled with Rick's great performances, is more interesting now than the second part, which is an exact reproduction of the album "Journey to the Center of the Earth." Since the performance of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is inevitably compared to the album, it is easy to feel that the technique and dynamics of the orchestra are lacking, but in the first half of the performance, Rick's skills as a rock band, including the use of the Mellotron, are fully demonstrated, and the sound, which is completely different from Yes, is comfortable with an elegant British scent. Rick used almost unknown musicians except for one of the vocalists, Ashley Holt, but the rustic nature of this performance may be irresistible for fans. The second half of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" is also grandiose and beautiful. No matter how many times you listen to it, no matter which country's performance you listen to, this song is interesting in its own way, like listening to a classical music CD. Of course, this performance in Japan was also wonderful, led by David Measham's conductor, and is a must-listen for Yes fans. Overall, this performance may be the best of their first visit to Japan.
