RAINBOW, which has become one of the symbols and monuments of British HR for Japan, will be visiting Japan for the first time. “Cozy Tapes”, which recorded the best soundboard, will be released. Speaking of soundboards that came to Japan for the first time, there are various types such as nostalgic FM broadcasts, the official SBD of "ON STAGE" deluxe edition, and "Cozy Tapes", and there are many different versions of each such as remasters. Of course, long-time collectors will know the whole story, but this is also a good opportunity, so let's take a quick look. First of all, let's start with the most basic question: "Which live?"・December 2nd: Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium ・December 5th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall ・December 7th: Nagoya City Public Hall ・December 8th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall ←★FM broadcast ・December 9th: Osaka Welfare Pension Hall Pension Hall ← *FM broadcast/Cozy Tape (this work) ・December 10: Kyoto Kaikan ・December 13: Kyuden Memorial Gymnasium ・December 14: Hiroshima City Public Hall ・December 16: Nippon Budokan (daytime)・December 16th: Nippon Budokan (night session) ← *Official Dela Eddy/Cozy Tape, etc. This is RAINBOW's first visit to Japan, totaling 10 performances. Among them, the sound board was left for the three performances mentioned above (I will omit the matter of official dera Eddy's miscredit). Of these, the ones left behind for “Cozy Tape” are “December 9th Osaka” and “December 16th Budokan (night session).” Titles such as Osaka's ``HERITAGE'' and Budokan's ``WHEN EVENING FALLS'' have shocked enthusiasts around the world. It's roughly like this, and the position of this work is "December 9th Osaka/Cozy Tape". This is a superb stereo soundboard recording that records from the beginning of the show to the middle of the show. So, what is the difference between this sound board's definitive album "HERITAGE"? The answer is, "This work is exactly like the tape." It was digitized directly from a 60-minute tape with "RAINBOW: LIVE JAPAN" written in Cozy's handwriting, without any modifications. In other words, there is no remastering or editing, and the operation traces at the time of recording, such as "Gyuru", are as they are. I simply transferred the tapes in Cozy's collection to CDR. Of course, for normal listening, ``HERITAGE'', which has been refined through mastering and turned into a musical work by removing unnecessary operation sounds and duplications, is better (that's why it is a definitive edition). However, the real thrill of peeking behind the scenes is when you get to the bottom of it. For example, how to divide the recorded contents. “Cozy Tape” was not only incomplete, but it was also a block recording like the one below with some skipping.・Block 1 (6:20): Over The Rainbow/Kill The King ・Block 2 (17:53): Mistreated/Sixteenth Century Greensleeves ・Block 3 (15:22): Catch The Rainbow ・Block 4 (13:14) :Purple Haze/Lazy Intro./Man On The Silver Mountain/Blues/Vocal Improvisation The MC etc. are skipped roughly between blocks, and they are interrupted by a "guru" sound. From this, hypotheses such as ``Maybe ``ON STAGE'' was intended to be a compilation of multiple performances from the beginning?'' and ``Was it a tape to check the performance of each song?'' are born. Other questions include, ``Who recorded it?'' ``How did Cozy get it?'' ``What kind of thoughts did they have in mind when complementing it?'' etc. Of course, no one will explain it to you, but the circumstances of the time can be seen through every bit of the live recording...or rather, you can't help but listen carefully, wondering if it will become clear. It arouses that kind of archaeological curiosity/exploratory spirit. And needless to say, the live sound is also the best. Because no modifications have been made, the sound is exactly as it was produced by the PA at the time. Unlike FM broadcasting, it does not create the atmosphere of a concert, nor has it been refined with consideration to home audio, nor does it transmit radio waves. The tremendous pleasure that the live performance of December 9, 1976 and the brain are completely synchronized... You can also enjoy the real pleasure of the leaked sound board at the highest level. “Cozy Tapes” has produced many masterpieces. What kind of sounds and forms are recorded in the actual object? This is a completely direct album that will tell you exactly what it is. This is a piece that I would like you to sit down and look at. Directly transferred from the original master cassette tape belonged to Cozy Powell"RAINBOW - LIVE JAPAN." handwritten on tape label.
