The historical masterpiece "THE MAGIC YEARS" of the official history video is reprinted with the highest quality. This work is an anthology work that looks back on the period from before the formation to "MAGIC TOUR 1986", which was Freddie's last tour. It is a masterpiece that summarizes the time when Freddie Mercury was in good health in about three hours. The original official work "THE MAGIC YEARS" was released in three works, "VOL.1" to "VOL.3", in 1987, but it has been out of print without being made into a DVD since then. In this work, three VHS works of the finest mint quality that were carefully treasured by core enthusiasts were borrowed and precisely digitized. The quality is really amazing. Of course, since it is VHS at that time, it is different from the modern sense of digital heyday, but the storage condition is perfect. There is no twisting of the tape or deterioration of playback, and not even a single line noise for three hours. There is no distortion at the edge of the screen, which can be said to be the fate of videotape, and the sound is also perfect. Although I have seen a few copies on the second-hand market, I could never have hoped for such a condition. I often hear people say, "I buy three copies, one for listening, one for spreading the word, and one for keeping," but even if it was for "keeping," it's hard to imagine it being in this condition after 30 years... This huge anthology work, revived with such quality, is literally a moving masterpiece. It is made in a standard way for a history work, with various live scenes and comments from members, related parties, and fans... In other words, in this era, there were few "rock history" videos released as video works that were neither live nor promotional videos, and this work pioneered the era and established the standard. And as a pioneer, the enthusiasm for the production is incredible, and the cast is no joke. Bob Geldof, producer Roy Thomas Baker, and the members' families and engineers talk candidly about the behind-the-scenes, and the fellow stars are also gorgeous. Elton John, Billy Squire, John Taylor, Paul McCartney, Samantha Fox, Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Jeff Beck, John Entwistle, Roger Daltrey, David Bowie, Phil Collins, Diana Ross, Little Richard... world-famous celebrities, STATUS QUO, Fish, Gary Moore, and even Wendy O. Williams (for some reason, she was taking a bath). This is not everything, each person talks about their feelings for QUEEN in a wide variety of ways. Even in today's world, where rock anthologies have become established, it is a fierce lineup. And it is not just a lineup of famous people and performances, but also a very rich content. It is packed with details, from the secret stories of the birth of famous songs to the orgies of the tour, and the scenes of the members on the verge of a fight. This work contains "VOL.1", "VOL.2" and "VOL.3" on each of the three discs, but let's start with "VOL.1". Here, we will look at the background of the formation of the band, the breakthrough of "A NIGHT AT THE OPERA", and the production of "One Vision". From the beginning, there are a series of episodes that you can't take your eyes off of, such as celebrities' reviews of QUEEN, unusual stories about the members, their attention to music videos, and behind-the-scenes stories of fee disputes. In addition, the footage is a rush of super-valuable footage, such as their debut performance, John Deacon's report card ("QUEEN" is written on his post-graduation career path!), and more, which will make you dizzy the more you dig deeper. It would be endless to write down all of them, but I won't convey the story without saying anything, so I'll just highlight two of the biggest highlights. The first is the story behind the birth of the iconic song "Bohemian Rhapsody". The main character here is producer Roy Thomas Baker, who vividly looks back on the time of recording. Starting with "I came up with this song," he gave one idea after another, such as "Let's make it opera-like here," to which he replied, "(Astonished)... Ah, that's good. It's opera-like," and said, "I decided to leave that to Freddie and do the rock part." And the song got longer and longer, and the manager at the time was worried that he couldn't play it on the radio. You can hear plenty of real comments from those involved who witnessed the birth, growth, and release of a super masterpiece that shines brightly in rock history. And the other is the production scene of "One Vision." The ongoing appearance at the time this video was made is vivid. Although they had already experienced a miraculous revival with "LIVE AID," they faced their creations sincerely and discussed without compromise. The key is clearly Freddie, who mercilessly gave instructions to the members such as "The current one is good, but the previous one was better" and "The gap is the same in the second verse." His appearance is completely different from the glamorous entertainer on stage, and is the very image of "Freddie the musician." Furthermore, after producer Mac's comment, "They had a big fight like a married couple. Not in front of people, but behind the scenes," the members disappear from the camera. Even after the scene changes, the marital quarrel is still lingering, as words such as "That was a beat like a clock" and "Let's save the fight for later, stop now" are said. And finally, Freddie plays the drum track and makes a fist pump as if to say "We did it!"... You can witness the production site where the uncompromising seriousness and human relationships are transparent. Instead, "VOL.2" is a success story that depicts the leap from the first visit to Japan, where they were discovered for the first time, to becoming world superstars. In 1975, when they were not recognized even in their home country, they were greeted with a storm of commotion and great hospitality, and the members who were surprised and looked for words of gratitude. They participate in a tea party in a dreamlike state, etc. The comments looking back on that time are vivid, but more than that, the expressions on the members' faces as they look around with expressions that say, "What is going on!?" are indescribably good. After that, the film depicts QUEEN as they become a huge wave, with plenty of talk about the "Hyde Park" that determined their success in their home country, and the North American tour that was a series of hardships. There are plenty of precious live shots, including their first performance at the Budokan in Japan. There are many interesting and precious images, such as TV appearances in various countries and mud wrestling at the after-party. The last "VOL.3" is a road movie that depicts Freddie's last "MAGIC TOUR 1986", starting with "LIVE AID", which was a miraculous comeback. From voice training in the dressing room to freely controlling a huge stadium, you can see Freddie's last shining in public. The South African performance that caused a worldwide bashing does not appear, so the miracle of "LIVE AID" feels thin, but the comments of the members who are savoring the 15 years are heavy now. At the time of this work, no one knew about the tragedy that was creeping up, and they spoke about the future. "One day I won't be able to run around on stage anymore. Eventually I'll quit. But I won't give up on music," Freddie said. This film ends with Freddie's "Fuck day, tomorrow." Because of the decisive tragedy that followed, there is no hope of an official reissue of this work. However, it is precisely because of this that it pierces the heart. Not only is it a masterpiece video work that changed rock culture, but the three hours of their journey, their way of life, and their numerous comments will carry you to the scent of their golden age.
