Tokyo Dome is the pinnacle of Japanese performances. Introducing a live album that records the first time Prince stood on that big stage. Prince performed in Japan a total of 38 times during his career, six of which were at Tokyo Dome. The first one was the "LOVESEXY JAPAN TOUR 1989", which is said to be the largest of his career. From this tour, the definitive album “SENDAI 1989” has also appeared, so let’s check the schedule as well. ・February 1: Sendai City Gymnasium "SENDAI 1989" ・February 4: Tokyo Dome [this work] ・February 5: Tokyo Dome ・February 7: Nagoya Rainbow Hall ・February 8: Nagoya Rainbow Hall ・February 10th: Kitakyushu City General Gymnasium ・February 12th: Osaka Castle Hall ・February 13th: Osaka Castle Hall (Final day of the world tour) In this way, of the Japanese performances arranged at the end of the world tour, this is the second performance included in this work. It is an audience album of “February 4, 1989”. “Audience recording of the Tokyo Dome performance”… This alone makes you imagine the “loud and dangerous sound”, right? No wonder. At the time, Tokyo Dome, which had been completed less than a year, was synonymous with a venue with poor sound. The sense of distance is too huge, the music sounds like an echo, and since it's indoors, the reverberations surround it... To make matters worse, at the time, many tapers did not fully understand these venue characteristics, and it was not even a great recording. When the master of this work arrived, I was prepared for such a "Tokyo Dome audience" and played it, but... But what happened! Is this the dome of the 80's? It certainly feels like a large venue, but far from being an "echo", the musical tones were absolutely wonderful and clear, and the singing voices were vivid. It was a live album where you could fully enjoy the gorgeous sound world of “LOVESEXY TOUR” without any “for Tokyo Dome” lyrics. There was a secret behind such high quality sound. In fact, the recording artist who pulled off the feat at Tokyo Dome at the time was a person who was active in Japan from the late 70s to the 80s. He is a master who made the masterpieces “THE FINAL PARADE” and “COMPLETE OSAKA 1986” from the previous Japan tour “PARADE TOUR 1986” into reality. If you have listened to these two, I think you will realize the amazingness of the technology, but this work is also a direct CD from the original cassette. Well, even so, I never thought that even Tokyo Dome would be able to create magic... As I mentioned earlier, there is no need for this work to have the phrase ``unique to Tokyo Dome,'' but it is necessary to say ``unique to Tokyo Dome.'' After all, the spectacle is huge, and whether it's the applause or the yellow chants, it's incredibly vast. In terms of volume, it is so small that it is not comparable to musical tones, but its density and three-dimensional feel are wide. The yellow carpet of "Kya!" stretches out so far that you can't see the end, and Prince is walking confidently in the middle of it...It's so realistic that you can almost see the illusion. Also, even with very thick musical tones, the spectacle is good. I don't know the detailed recording position, but the core and edges are vivid, and the slightly fluffy reverberation extends far away, but for some reason it doesn't come around. This greatly enhances the gorgeous feeling of “LOVESEXY TOUR”. Delicious things to experience on “LOVESEXY TOUR” with such sounds. As I mentioned in the commentary for "SENDAI 1989," Prince's Heaven was the venue that made Andy Warhol call it "the greatest concert ever." The two-part stage is centered around ``SIGN O' THE TIMES'' in the first part, and includes popular and representative songs at once, and in the second part, the dazzling world of the masterpiece ``LOVESEXY'' opens up. In particular, 7 of the 9 songs of ``LOVESEXY'' (excluding ``When 2 R in Love'' and ``Positivity'') are performed, and the album shows off a different expression from the studio album, which had a fixed order of songs. Sheila E's performance in "Dance On" and "A Love Bizarre" is perfect. "LOVESEXY" is sexy, positive and colorful. The most colorful paradise in Prince's life bloomed in full bloom at Tokyo Dome. This is a superb live album that revives that first night from the master's original cassette. The happiest moment spent between Prince and Japan.
