Z98 is a complete recording of the live performance at Zaragoza, Spain, from the European leg of the New Power Soul Festival tour in 1998, including Larry Graham's GCS set, sound check, and the live performance itself. Only 500 copies were made and it was out of print, but it has been reissued with a new jacket. Audience recording, the sound quality is terribly front-facing with a strong vocal and bass sound, but the drums are a bit tight, and the clever remastering makes the sound crisper. Developing from the Jam of the Year tour, Prince did not do any major tours in 1999, and as a result, this December 1998 is the culmination of Prince's live performances since the end of 1996. (Let Me Be Your) A kind of mashup of the new (Prince) and old (Elvis) Teddy Bear and Courtin' Time is also a rare play unique to this period. Zaragoza On My Mind is the intro to Nothing Compares 2 U, but it's a great blues song. The GCS set, which plays Days Of Wild for the rally, is also very funky because of Prince. And the sound check of Tell Me What It Is and the 5-minute version of Skin Tight is so funky that I wish they had played it in the actual performance.
