Live in Japan has been discovered that even the words “Prince Is Dead!!” pierce the heart. Prince visited Japan six times in his life, but this work was recorded on “THE ULTIMATE EXPERIENCE (GOLD) TOUR” in 1996, the only time in “THE ARTIST era”. In 1993, he signed a contract with Warner Brothers and announced the ``death of Prince'' with his album ``COME''. They announced ``THE GOLD EXPERIENCE'' with a new symbol mark as their artist name, and came to Japan as part of the tour. The opening words are his own words announcing the start of the performance. Let's look back at the only performance in Japan during "THE ARTIST era". ・January 8: Nippon Budokan ・January 9: Nippon Budokan ・January 11: Osaka Castle Hall ・January 14: Fukuoka International Center ・January 16: Nippon Budokan ・January 17: Nippon Budokan・January 20th: Yokohama Arena [This work] As you can see, this Japan tour included a total of 7 performances. This work is an audience album containing the final day of the event, “January 20, 1996, Yokohama Arena Performance.” There have been two or three types of recordings of this day before, but this is a completely different recording from them. It is the world's first public release master with outstanding quality. This work was recorded by one of Japan's most famous recorders. It is a live album that directly uses the DAT master given directly by the taper himself. What flows out from that original DAT is a vivid audience sound that blows away the previous ones. Although the recording position is not transmitted, the direct feeling of the musical sound is wonderfully vivid, and there is almost no reverberation. The enthusiastic performance and singing voice jumps into your ears. Unless it's given to you by the recording artist himself, if you only listen to the musical sounds, you'll almost think it's a sound board connected directly to a desk or top-quality IEMs. Although it is so vivid, this work is still an audience recording. The surest proof of this is the outpouring of enthusiasm. When you write it like this, you might get the impression that it sounds like someone searching for a musical note in the commotion, but of course that's not the case. The balance is such that the straight-forward musical tones penetrate straight through like a laser beam through the enthusiasm of the audience, which exudes the atmosphere of the spacious "Yokohama Arena," and the musical tones do not give up the leading role in the slightest. What makes this work so great is not its size, but its three-dimensional feel. For example, when Prince moves around on stage, the singing voice coming out of the PA doesn't waver. However, the loud cheers that erupt as he stares at him, points at him, and sings to him move in a realistic manner. Just when I thought that the far right seats were getting excited, a wave of enthusiasm started to move to the left, and before I knew it, I was surrounded by it. The scatting of Prince's ``Yokohama!'' is also mixed in with this, creating a sense of the scene where you can see where he is on stage when you close your eyes. This feeling is unique to audience recordings, which can never be experienced with broadcast sound sources or official discs with cheers added later. It is also a sound world that can only be experienced with the best recording, where the musical tone is unbeatable while actually being enthusiastic. The tremendous on-site sensation of this work begins immediately after playback. In fact, the DAT was being circulated even before the performance started, and the announcement "Thank you very much for coming to THE ARTIST FORMERLY KNOWN AS PRINCE performance today. We have a request for the audience..." was heard in the venue, and the atmosphere of the audience was filled with anticipation. It's also inhaling a lot. And it's long! I don't know if the show was delayed that day, but it was a whopping 36 minutes long. What's more, even after Prince's opening music begins, it's still another 10 minutes. Of course, I don't think you'll want to listen to this opening part over and over again, but if you have time, please enjoy it without skipping it at least once. Expectations are slowly building and I can't wait. Then, all those feelings piled up and exploded at once with “Yokohama, Prince Is Dead!!” Because we share our sense of time and excitement with the audience, we can also synchronize with the enthusiasm of the show. And then, as the show opened, a new golden world unfolded with eye-opening vividness. New songs from "THE GOLD EXPERIENCE," which was the first release of "THE ARTIST," were performed one after another, including "Endorphinmachine," "Shhh!," and "Now." Of course, this is not a reproduction of the album, and includes other repertoire, but out of the first eight songs, five are new songs. Furthermore, the encore will be all new songs, with 9 of the 12 songs from ``THE GOLD EXPERIENCE'' (excluding NPG Operator) being played. Until then, he was purple, but he was reborn as gold. That appearance hits you hard. In the latter half of the show, a large amount of repertoire other than new songs will be played, but here again it is different from his usual. Songs that he only performed during this period of his life, including ``Letitgo'' from ``COME'', which declared ``the death of Prince'', ``One of Us'' by Joan Osborne, ``Vicki Waiting'', and ``Purple Medley''. You can listen to a lot of it. Due to the feud with Warner Brothers, "THE ARTIST era" is rarely looked upon. This is a famous live album that captures the final day of that one-time Japan tour with the best sound. Even during this era, Prince shone like no other. And the golden appearance was also delivered to Japan. This work is solid proof of that. Now that we are looking back on his life, this is one of the world's first releases that you should listen to.
