Prince, who had not been able to release an album in a satisfactory form, finally released the liberating album Emancipation on November 19, 1996, jointly by NPG Records and EMI. This was recorded in a very good audience recording of the Birmingham performance on January 18, 1997, which was the opening stage of the Emancipation Celebration: Love 4 One Another Charities tour that followed, with keyboards, guitar, and vocals coming to the fore. It was released under the title Funky Alabama by Prince's specialty label Optimum, but it went out of print and has now been reissued with a new jacket. The opening song on Disc 1 of the album Emancipation, Jam Of The Year, and then James Brown's Talkin' Loud And Sayin' Nothing are developed in a Prince-style jam, and the audience's excitement is at its boiling point with Purple Rain. A sad but funky version of 17 Days, TMBGITW is also played well, the new song Get Yo Groove On features thrilling keyboards, Madhouse's 6 phrases, a new song Face Down that develops and excites with a careful arrangement, One Of Us, which was shown in Japan in 1996, is subtly changed to a version that shows the best guitar playing by being included in the album Emancipation, and the fact that Prince's hit songs are also played is proof that the mood is gradually becoming liberated from the Gold Experience era. The new song Mr. Happy is later shortened, but he plays it well at this time. And the development that flows into 18 & Over is also wonderful. The encore was a new song, Sleep Around, which was played well, followed by Take The A Train and James Brown's I Feel All Right, which was played together with the audience. Johnny's loose funk groove from NPG's first album Gold Nigga was played occasionally from ACTII, but it was played near the end here as well, but it didn't end there, and the last part was Funky Alabama, with a stylish keyboard phrasing, and then Freedom (Is A Beautiful Thing) jam. Bonus includes a cassette tape sold at the NPG store and a soundboard live recording of the tape. The original is now traded at a very high price. The 5-minute live arrangement, which can be said to be the completed form of Jam Of The Year, and the strongest 9-minute live version of Face Down with a super funk bass explosion are both undisputed masterpieces.
