Released on March 1, 1973, the immortal masterpiece "Madness" still shines as the greatest monument of rock music. This is the definitive outtake collection featuring different versions of all the songs on "Madness"! The content is "Another Madness" in which PINK FLOYD researchers carefully selected and reconstructed the first-time masters and the highest peak masters. This work contains a wide variety of studio outtakes, but it is not just a collection of valuable takes. It is composed of two major sections and is also well-crafted as a musical work. Let's introduce each section right away. Main: "Another Madness" assembled from rare takes The main feature of this work is "Madness" reassembled from outtakes. All the songs are significantly different from the regular takes, and yet it is "Another Madness" that has the quality to pass as an official work. The legendary "all-in" take is upgraded on the B-side. This work reconstructs "Madness" from three different takes, but the rarest and most interesting is the "Alternate Mix" on the B-side. This is a different mix that was suddenly released in 2008 by the Silent Sea label, which was familiar with Beatles titles, and was included in the Floyd title "THE GREAT GIG IN THE SKY". This work is not a copy, but an upgraded version recorded from the original master. The Silent Sea version was created from compressed sound sources with MD or mp3 as the source, but this work uses the highest peak master that was transferred losslessly from the original digital master. This lossless master is not available on the Internet, and is a secret secret that was secretly circulated among researchers. It is a must-listen just for the "alternate mix with significantly better sound", but the true amazingness is not there, but the rare "all-in-one multi-mix". This alternate mix was born during the production of the official 5.1ch remix album in the 1990s. One day, an engineer who was working went out to lunch with the multi-track tape still set, and someone who was looking for 30 minutes when no one was in the studio played the multi-track master. It is a sound source with a story behind it, as it was recorded directly from the desk. The key point here is that "the faders of all 16 tracks on the mixer desk were full." This meant that each channel, which should have been adjusted for balance, was recorded at full volume. In other words, "sounds that were omitted in the final version" and "sounds that are usually hard to notice" are also recorded in a big way. For example, in "Money," there is a shaker that cannot be heard in the release version, and the complete version also includes "Afterwards," which fades out at the end. You can also hear the scat and jam-like ending for nearly a minute, and the vocal line is different. In "Us And Them," there is a double saxophone duet, and at the end of the song, there is piano and backing vocals. In "Brain Damage," you can also hear the tubular bells that were deleted in the final mix. The best part is the ending of the last song, "Eclipse." The narration that was faintly heard behind the heartbeat can be heard for a long time, and at the same level as the main vocals. Sometimes you'll be surprised by the remastered version and think, "Wow, this sound was included," but this "all-in-one B-side" will give you the biggest shock! A-side reconstructed from the original form It's a bold idea to aim for the engineer's lunch time, but for that reason, they were only able to record the B-side that was set on the open reel deck. It seems they didn't have time to get to the A-side. So, in this work, the A-side part has been reconstructed using two different sources. The main part is the "1972 Early Mix." This is literally the initial mix by Alan Parsons at the time of the album production, and it is recorded from the same highest peak master as the official "IMMERSION BOX SET" in 2011. However, this initial mix was not used because the opening "Speak To Me" was unfinished. So this work includes a long version of the SE tape used on the 1974 tour. This was overlaid on the screen footage that was also included in the IMMERSION BOX SET. Only the audio was extracted from it and balanced with the other tracks. This allows you to enjoy the B-side mix straight through. Second half: Even more valuable outtakes Following the main feature, "Another Madness," are nine more diverse outtakes. These can also be divided into three parts, so let's introduce them individually. Original version (2 songs) First up are two original songs that were released before the alternate version. One is "Us And Them," which was originally composed for the movie "Dune" under the title "The Violent Sequence." However, director Michelangelo Antonioni, who had envisioned a "Eugene-like song," rejected it and it was shelved. In fact, this original version was also included in the IMMERSION BOX SET, but for some reason it was edited to shreds and shortened. This work includes the full unedited version of 6 minutes and 19 seconds. The second is "The Travel Sequence", the original song of "On The Run". It was recorded in the studio with the live arrangement, and the guitar leads without that unique synth riff. This studio version was never used because the song itself was remade from scratch. A major upgrade rough mix (4 songs) This is also one of the highlights of this work, and is a first-time appearance sound source. The take itself first appeared in 1989 on the ancient Italian bootleg "FROM THE OTHER SIDE", but this work is an upgraded version from the original. It is a super rare master of researchers who are not even available on the Internet, and is a track that has been reborn with a high sound quality that is completely different from the fluffy "FROM THE OTHER SIDE" take. The content is also very interesting. There are various types of "rough mix", but in this case, it feels like "the final nail has not been decided". Although the musical completion is high, it is the most delicious stage where you can see the difference from the final version in one shot. For example, "Time" does not have a lead guitar yet, but the intro is about 30 seconds longer, and "Us And Them" has no tape echo and the sax is a different take, which is interesting. "Brain Damage" and "Eclipse" have Gilmour's guitar overdubbed, which was omitted in the release version. Also, like "FROM THE OTHER SIDE", the first half of "Brain Damage" was missing, which is the first verse of the lyrics, but this version was supplemented from the Pompeii sound source, so you can listen to it without the frustration of fading in. SE sound source used in the live performance (3 songs) The last part of this work is the SE tape sound source used in the live tour from 1973 to 1975. The sound was synchronized with the screen film included in the official "IMMERSION BOX SET" Blu-ray, but while track 01 Speak To Me was the 1974 UK tour version, this was used in the 1975 North American tour. As an aside, this take was mistakenly recorded as the 1974 French tour on the official DVD and Blu-ray. The remaining two tracks are also valuable sound sources where you can listen to only the SEs without overlapping performances. This is a collection of treasures that covers all the songs on "Madness" + 9 takes. This is the definitive edition of "Madness" rare tracks, including "Another Madness" featuring the shocking "all-in-one B-side", a greatly upgraded rough mix, and the original songs of the highest quality. The definitive edition of "Madness" outtakes. The first half is a different version of all the songs on "Madness" composed using three different masters, and the B-side part that was particularly intense was the B-side part that was sneakily recorded during the official remix work. Since it was recorded with all channels full, it is a different dimension take where the performances and SEs that could not be heard in the final version stand out like the main melody. The second half includes 9 individual takes, including the original version and extremely rare rough mixes. This is the ultimate album that will be the conclusion of the 50th anniversary.
