The sound quality of Hakone Aphrodite has been significantly upgraded!! The best sound has been selected from the five existing sound sources, and a complete remastered version with the longest and best sound quality to date is now available on August 6th!! Friday, August 6th, 1971, Hakone Lake Ashi, Seikei Gakuen Norifudai, commonly known as "'71 Hakone Aphrodite". This Western counter culture shock, which descended on Japan prior to the legendary first visit of Led Zeppelin the following month, continues to shine with a special brilliance for us Japanese fans. As you know, there have been various recordings of Floyd's Hakone "806", which can be said to be Zeppelin's 929, in the past, but in order to make the main topic easier to understand, I would like to start by reorganizing the existing August 6th sound sources. [Recorder 1]: A valuable recording that was the only one to record "Simbaline" until Recorder 5 was released. The master was probably recorded on a reel, and the LP that the recorder produced at his own expense was not even sold in shops, and only a very few of them are known to exist as phantom private records. Mono AUD sound source. Representative titles: "APHRODITE (DYNAMITE STUDIO - DS94J058)" and "APHRODITE 1971: Peace Record (import title)" (each recording time: about 46 minutes) [Recorder 2]: The most popular source, which begins with the closing part of Buffy St. Mary's performance and an opening greeting by a popular DJ from a commercial radio station at the time. Even as of 2018, this is the stereo AUD sound source with the best sound quality. Representative titles: Disc 1 of "APHRODITE" and Disc 1 of "APHRODITE 1971" (each recording time: about 62 minutes) [Recorder 3]: Recordings from "Atom Heart Mother" to "Watch Out for the Axe, Eugene" recorded on Disc 2 of "APHRODITE". Although the sound quality is poor, this was the only source that recorded the MC "Ok, here we go" part just before the performance of "Atom Heart Mother" until the appearance of Recorder 4. Mono AUD sound source. Disc 2 of the representative title "APHRODITE" (recording time: about 31 minutes) [Recorder 4]: "Sunshine Hymn" is recorded uncut for the first time in history, and "Echoes" is also recorded completely uncut for the first time in history. A mystery about the date written on the box containing the actual reel tape also attracted attention. Mono AUD recording. Representative titles: "HAKONE APHRODITE 1971 MASTER RECORDING" and "HAKONE APHRODITE 1971 MASTER RECORDING: REMASTERED & RESTORED" (each recording time: about 55 minutes) [Recorder 5]: The first ever uncut appearance of "Mystery", the first uncut appearance of the second take of "Sun Hymn" and "Simbaline", and even the closing greeting by a popular DJ from a commercial radio station, are all included in the full recording of the shocking performance. The mono AUD recording from the original master cassette is immeasurable, as it completely solved the set list of this day, which was filled with mysteries. Representative titles: "COMPLETE APHRODITE 1971" and "APHRODITE 1971" discs 1-2 (each recording time: about 100 minutes) *There seems to be a sixth sound source, the soundtrack audio of the film footage (TV Saitama "Sound Super City"). Of these, there is no doubt that the most noteworthy is the supernova release "COMPLETE APHRODITE 1971" released in July 2016. This Recorder 5, which includes the first ever uncut "Mystery", the first uncut take of the second take of "Sun Hymn" and "Simbaline", and even the closing greeting by a DJ from a commercial radio station that was very popular at the time, was a first-class documentary sound source that not only had exceptional sound quality, but also completely elucidated the entire set list of the day, where information paradoxes occurred due to the viewers' misremembering. However, although Recorder 5 has such excellent recordability and sound quality, it is not without weaknesses. That is, the momentary sound dropout that occurs frequently in the right channel, and although the "sound quality" was very good, it was true that the "quality" of the sound was one step behind other sources. However, since the aim of this 160 disc was to "record this historically unearthed source with a sound image that is as faithful as possible to the master original sound", the defect in the right channel was also an intentional reproduction (※ And even if you take that into account, those who listened to it at the time will understand that it was a high-quality record that contained the discovery of overwhelming knowledge). However, if the 160 was as faithful as possible to the original sound of the master tape of the great excavation, then we believe that it is also our mission, as the Sigma label alone, to embody a high-quality record that remasters and restores the weaknesses of the 160 that we have been turning a blind eye to. This latest work will be released with this aim in mind, and in addition to resolving the right channel problem, which was the biggest weakness of Recorder 5, the gaps between each song that were missing due to the pause button to conserve the remaining tape are rebuilt with the corresponding scenes from a different source on the same day, and the most detailed overall picture will be released this weekend! Another thing is that the source that can be listened to with the best sound is still Recorder 2, so "Recorder 2 as a complete version" is also realized on Disc 3. This missing scene compensation version based on Recorder 2 was previously done on 117, but the main point this time is that the missing scenes are compensated for with Recorders 4 and 5. This is because at the time of the production of 117 (and 133), Recorders 4 and 5 had not yet been excavated, and it was physically impossible to compensate for "Echoes". Therefore, this disc 3, which solved all these problems with Recorders 4 and 5, is surprisingly the first complete supplementary version of Recorder 2, and this work is an excellent one that you can enjoy in its entirety (※ However, since Recorder 2 only has recordings up to that "Echoes", you can listen to the second half of the live performance by returning to Disc 2). In other words, this work is a Hakone title that has reached the pinnacle of sound quality and quality, with the first ever pseudo-full-length latest remastered version based on Recorder 5 on Discs 1 and 2, and the first ever Recorder 2 complete remaster on Disc 3!! [Disc 1 + 2 / Recorder 5 latest remaster pseudo-full-length version] Discs 1 and 2 have been significantly remastered based on Recorder 5. First, the parts missing from Recorder 5, namely, the end of Buffy St. Mary's show, the commercial radio station DJ's MC, and the sound check before the show, and the introduction to the beginning of "Sun Hymn" were connected with two other sources from the same day (※ Recorder 2 and 4). The main equipment used is Recorder 2, which has excellent sound quality, but for the few seconds before the performance and intro of "Sun Hymn," which is missing even in Recorder 2, the reel-to-reel sound source of Recorder 4 is used. In addition, in order to completely solve the momentary sound cut-off and sound fluctuation in the right channel that Recorder 5 inherently had, as well as the digital metallic noise like MP3, the original right channel sound was discarded and the left channel, which is in good condition, was made completely mono. You may be wondering, "What, mono??", but although the original master sound of the Sigma 160 board sounds like stereo due to the hiss noise heard from the left and right, looking at the waveform, there is no doubt that the original sound was recorded in mono. Therefore, by unifying and monoing this only in the left channel, the crosstalk (※ the mutual progression of signals between the left and right channels that are originally separated) was perfectly synchronized, and the discomfort in the ear was greatly alleviated. In addition, since the cause of digital noise was concentrated in the frequency band around 10Khz of the master tape original sound, careful EQ correction was applied mainly to this area, making it much easier to listen to than 160. First, Buffy St. Mary's "The Circle Game" is entirely on Recorder 2, and the sound check and the track (2) featuring a commercial radio station DJ from that time are also supplemented with Recorder 2 from 0:00 to 3:08. Then, from "Atom Heart Mother", the new Recorder 5 sound, which is completely mono, is introduced. The perfect crosstalk has achieved a sense of unity between the left and right sounds, and the sound has also been made thicker, so everyone will be overwhelmed by the power of the straight and massive mono transparent sound. The sound check after the performance was again connected with Recorder 2 from 0:06 to 1:20, and the same part of Recorder 5 that was missing to ensure the remaining tape was connected with the best sound to ensure the completeness of the scene. "Eugene, Beware the Axe" has improved the sound output of the right channel, which was miserably interrupted for about the first 3 minutes, and is now much easier to listen to, which is also an advantage that makes you feel a jump from 160. "Echoes" has also been revived with the latest remastered Recorder 5 sound, which is a special listening experience, but please enjoy the high-resolution mono sound that is almost stereo with a particularly natural volume, so please look forward to it. The sound check at the beginning of Disc 2 is Recorder 5 up to track time 1:22, and Recorder 4 is used from 1:23 to the introduction of "Sun Hymn" 0:02. "Mystery" was cross-faded around 19:08 after the end of the song to ease the transition between recording on and off. The crackling and tingling sound in the right channel that was noticeable in the audience's applause in response to Roger's MC "Thank you!" has also been perfectly removed, and the momentary sound loss that was present in the master original sound has also been resolved. Furthermore, the sound check between the songs has been made into an independent track for the first time, which has improved the accuracy of the scene progression. The "Simbaline" also has no noticeable crackling sound that was noticeable in the closing greeting scene by the commercial radio station DJ who reappears after the final song, and you will strongly feel that the disc ends with the ideal elasticity and luster of sound. [Disc 3 / The longest version of the standard Recorder 2, using the latest remaster of Recorder 5 as supplementary material] ... However, if we compare only the sound aspect, the fact that the stereo AUD recording of Recorder 2 is still the best is unshakable. Recorder 5 is also a very excellent mono recording, but Recorder 2, which was originally recorded in stereo and has excellent transparency, is still in a class of its own. Disc 3 is the first complete version of Recorder 2, and the missing musical sounds and scenes have been repaired and supplemented with Recorder 5, the latest remaster used for discs 1 and 2 of this work. As I mentioned earlier, the biggest feature of this release is that it is supplemented with Recorders 4 and 5, which had not yet been discovered when Sigma 117 (and 133), the old supplementary version of Recorder 2, was released. Another feature is that a scene in "Echoes," a title that used Recorder 2 in the past, in which the performance sounds were duplicated (* the same scene was recorded twice due to an editing error) has been restored. For example, in Sigma 117, this corresponds to the area from 15:52 to 16:40 in "Echoes," but this duplicated part of the musical sounds has been deleted this time, and it is also an important topic that it has been correctly and seamlessly restored.
On the other hand, in "Eugene, Beware the Axe", where the damage was particularly noticeable in Recorder 2, 1:31 to 2:01 was filled in with the new Recorder 5, and the sound cut in the left channel that existed from 2:08 to 2:15 was also repaired by overdubbing the new Recorder 5, significantly improving the sound quality. In addition, the aforementioned "Echoes" was also filled in with the new Recorder 5, with the opening song introduction by Roger (※ 0:00 to 0:04) and the latter half of the song (※ 19:03 to the end of the track) that were missing in Recorder 2. This is the first time that "Echoes" by Recorder 2 has been revived in a full-length version performed on the same day, but what I want to pay attention to is the compensation section from 19:03 in the second half, where the sound is taken over by Recorder 5, where there is almost no difference in sound quality between the two sources. In other words, it is a scene where you can be amazed once again that Recorder 5 is not only superior in recording, but also in its sound quality, it was a great excavation source that had the potential to be the only one to rival Recorder 2. The weaknesses that each source had when it was introduced, in other words, "future challenges" " has been solved with this latest work. Please listen closely and pay attention to this elegant seamlessness and the strongest tone quality in history. The sharp sound of the low and high ranges emitted from the speakers, and above all the smooth sound waves that you will feel in the mid-range, will carry the jewel-like time and sound ecstasy that flowed among the mountains of Hakone that day with unprecedented quality. The familiar melodies and tones will awaken the listener once again, and fill you with the ideal form of Hakone Aphrodite. Please give it a try!! "First-class documentary sound source" Recorder 5 is remastered for the first time + pseudo-longest recording! In addition, the first "complete version" of the best sound quality Recorder 2!
