Knebworth in 1975 is known for the final performance of "Madness" by the original four members and the realization of their collaboration with Roy Harper. A binaural album that allows you to experience that historic scene in a super-realistic way has been decided to be released. This work is recorded at the "July 5, 1975 Knebworth Park" performance. It is a super-three-dimensional audience recording. Some of you may have already guessed it, but this show was the same night as the complete live album "KNEBWORTH 1975 COMPLETE (Sigma 302)" that was permanently preserved this week. The new press masterpiece was the longest edition compiled using three types of recording, but this work is a completely different recording with no overlaps. As mentioned in the commentary of "KNEBWORTH 1975 COMPLETE", let's organize the audience recordings that were the material here.・RECORDER 1 ←※KNEBWORTH 1975 COMPLETE (first half) ・RECORDER 2 ←★This work★ ・RECORDER 3 ←※KNEBWORTH 1975 COMPLETE (complementary) ・RECORDER 4 ←※KNEBWORTH 1975 COMPLETE (second half) These are the main Knebworth recordings. There are eight audience recordings in existence, but these four are the top masters that are suitable for listening and enjoying. Three of them were used for "KNEBWORTH 1975 COMPLETE", and the remaining "RECORDER 2" is this work. Oh, wait a minute! At this point, you might think, "What, are these leftovers?", but that's not the case. Rather, it is such a powerful recording that this work could be the best in terms of quality and listening. Why was it not used for pressing despite being such a good recording? It's because it has too strong a personality. Connecting it to other recordings creates a sense of incongruity, and trying to eliminate that sense of incongruity kills the flavor of the recording. So what is this "too strong individuality"? The keyword is "binaural." It is an audience recording left by a taper named "Nigel B," who is also known for recording the 1974 Wembley performance with a binaural microphone. Although the equipment used at Knebworth is not known, this work is a special recording that allows you to enjoy a similar three-dimensional sound. I wrote it on the premise of "binaural" right away, but "binaural (both ears)" is a type of three-dimensional sound, recorded using a dummy head that imitates a human head, and played back with headphones. It is a recording method that specializes in "the sense of realism that makes you feel like you are really there," where you hear footsteps from under your feet and feel a voice calling you from behind. It has become a staple of haunted houses because of its excessive realism, and in recent years it has been in the spotlight due to the development of VR (virtual reality) and ASMR. However, the technique itself existed in the 70s, and this work is a valuable one that recorded the "WISH YOU WERE HERE Tour" using the binaural method. The sound is truly ultra-realistic. The performance sound itself is as clear as the best recording "RECORDER 4", but what is even more overwhelming is the feeling of "being there". It is the 70s after all, and (probably) a headphone-type microphone is used instead of a dummy head, so the accuracy of modern ASMR cannot be expected, but it is still on a different level from normal audience recordings. The beautifully separated stereo feeling is tremendous, and you can even tell which direction the PA is in. Furthermore, even the surrounding noise is super real. The sense of distance of each conversation is vivid, and the "clang!" sound of an empty can rolling is exactly on the scene. There is an unidentified "bang" sound further back in the back of the head, and it makes you turn around wondering if something really sounded in the room. Writing like this may make it seem like it's full of noise, but it's not. Being able to feel the distance from the crowd means that you can feel the scene being dominated by the extremely thick sound of the performance. Moreover, the main character is PINK FLOYD, the person who evolved rock with sound effects. The three-dimensional sense of space is truly historic. It is no exaggeration to say that it is the essence of Floyd-style progressive rock. It is so unique and so valuable. It is a shocking binaural album that digs out the essence of Floyd music with super-stereophonic sound. Because of its greatness, it did not allow matching with other recordings, but in a sense it is more groundbreaking than a new masterpiece. A three-disc set that is truly worthy of being called a "musical experience". Please be sure to witness "Knebworth in 1975" with headphones. An extremely valuable binaural recording has been released. This is an audience recording of the final performance of the WISH YOU WERE HERE Tour recorded in stereophonic sound, and it is a shocking live album that allows you to experience the true value of Floyd, who evolved rock with spatial sound.
