The legendary Mike Millard recording is now available in a memorial edition celebrating its 50th anniversary! The official 50th anniversary release of "Flames of Fire" was announced, but the shocking inclusion of the official Mike Millard recording from April 26, 1975, shocked enthusiasts worldwide. Perhaps thanks to Rolling Stone magazine's insistence that the Millard recording be officially released, it's finally here, and it's Floyd. Millard himself must be laughing in heaven, as if he'd won a heartfelt farewell. Given this, there's no way the official release would be able to release the Millard master as is, and with Steven Wilson handling the recording, some kind of equalization is sure to be added. Even with the official intent, no matter how good the Millard recording's sound quality, there's no way it wouldn't be tampered with. Therefore, enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the release of this official release, eager to see what it can do. This brings to light a renewed appreciation for the original Millard recording. But aren't the Sigma242 "LOS ANGELES 1975 4TH NIGHT: MIKE MILLARD ORIGINAL MASTER" and the Sigma286 "ULTIMATE MILLARD" enough? ...You're right. When JEMS released the master cassette of this recording in 2020, it seemed as if this once-in-a-lifetime audience recording of Millard had been perfected. However, among the many Millard recordings, the April 26, 1975 recording has long been widely available among traders, even compared to the "Eddie" recording. Perhaps due to the constant requests for copies, signs of deterioration in sound quality due to aging of the tape were beginning to appear. This is the reality that 45 years had passed since JEMS released the master. Ironically, it was the 1st Gen, considered the definitive version among enthusiasts before this master, that successfully captured the master's condition before it began to deteriorate. Moreover, there is a DAT copy available in which the transfer from tape was extremely natural. For this release, we chose to use the 1st Gen version. We somehow managed to obtain this 1st Gen copy from Millard, who was known to be quite strict when it came to trading, in his later years. For some reason, this 1st Gen copy began circulating among traders in Japan around the early 2000s, and the nostalgic Highland release "THE LATE GREAT MILLARD TAPES" was based on this 1st Gen version. At the time, trading was already moving toward CD-R, but the release was just in time to obtain a DAT copy. The recording includes a detailed mic test by Millard himself at the beginning of the recording, and the title track has been highly acclaimed, especially overseas, and has long been considered the best of the April 26, 1975 release. Therefore, for this release, we chose the title "The Late Great Millard Tapes" as a homage to this classic. This time, we're deliberately returning to the 1st Gen version, and what's most striking is the sound quality. 2025's technology has succeeded in fully extracting the sound quality of the 1st Gen copy, something that was impossible with the Highland release over 20 years ago. Its natural, deep bass resonance and extended treble range are immediately apparent, surpassing the 2020 master version. Indeed, compared to the rich sound quality of this release, the master version's treble sounds a bit shakier, as if it were being forced, and this was a sign of the master's deterioration. However, the 1st Gen version had a problem with periodic pops in the left channel. This was a drawback of cassettes and an issue that had been ignored with the Highland version. This time, we manually removed each bit, thoroughly, to achieve an even more perfect sound quality, highlighting the difference from the already deteriorated master. This is the latest and greatest version of the April 26, 1975 mirrored recording, which will be officially released in December! In addition, the official mirrored recording part is recorded in the form of being incorporated into Blu-ray, while this one can be listened to quickly on CD, which is actually an advantage. Well, we enthusiasts, let's listen to this and see what Wilson can do. Los Angeles Memorial Sports Arena, Los Angeles, CA, USA 26th April 1975 ULTIMATE SOUND!!! 1ST GEN DAT COPY REMASTER...UPGRADE!!!
