This is a rare live recording of Phil Lynott's Grand Slam, formed by Phil Lynott after the breakup of Thin Lizzy. The show was held in Lifford, Ireland on April 29, 1984, just after the start of the tour. It is recorded on a super high quality soundboard that surpasses the official recording! After Thin Lizzy broke up in early September 1983, Phil planned a new solo project to express his own music, and invited John Sykes, Brian Downey, Dois Neigl, who had worked with Phil as "The Three Musketeers" in the summer of 1983, and Mark Stanway, formerly of Magnum, to join. However, Sykes chose to join Whitesnake at this time, so he added Laurence Archer, who was an unknown young guitarist at the time, as lead guitarist, and started the band under a new name: Phil Lynott's Grand Slam. However, Phil's condition was unstable and he rarely showed up to rehearsals, and Downey, feeling uneasy about this, left the band just before the tour began (according to one theory, three days before the first gig). Phil welcomed Robbie Brennan, who was also a member of SKID ROW, as his successor drummer, and toured Ireland for a total of 13 shows from April 26th to May 11th, 1984. The Liford show recorded on this album on April 29th, 1984, was the fourth show since the start of the tour. The recording from this day was long ago released by the Withdrawn label as "LIVE" using the full stereo line sound source from the people involved, and has been considered a must-listen standard for Phil and LIZZY fans. This time, this master has been fully remastered and treated, reviving it as a top-class item that matches the greatness of the sound source! In addition, GLAND SLAM's Irish tour was officially released in 2002 as a live work "LIVE 1984", which is a mix of takes from the first three shows. This work is actually centered on the take of this Liford performance, with various edits such as a mix of S.E. added to it. When comparing this work with the official version, the soundboard sound source is almost of the same level, but the sound aspects are very different, and even though it is the same Liford sound source, it almost feels like a different show. This work is a true take that captures the performance on April 29th in its entirety, and you can enjoy the raw document that you could not experience at the official live reconstructed into a "work" to your heart's content! In the intro of the show, you can hear the members' warm-up play that was cut from the official live, making the tension of the show even stronger. The powerful and rhythmic beat that the band is known for is already at full throttle from the first song "Nineteen", and along with "Yellow Pearl", it immediately gets the listener excited. The first half of this live performance is a big highlight of the selection of songs related to Gary Moore. "Sarah," which begins with Phil's MC saying, "This is a song that I didn't play in LIZZY," is a choice from "BLACK ROSE," in which Gary participated fully, and is a pop song with a soft singing style that is characteristic of Phil. The familiar "Parisienne Walkways" will attract fans' ears as another original version sung by Phil. "Crime Rate," which is in the middle of the live performance, was significantly modified in the official version, with siren sound effects mixed in, but here you can listen to the untouched performance carefully. Together with "Look In These Eyes," where Phil's bass notes create a dynamic musical idea, these are important scenes that greatly appeal to the charm of GLAND SLAM. In "Night In The Life Of A Blues Singer" in the second half of the live performance, you can hear the keyboard solo that was officially cut from 2:00 for about 30 seconds. Mark Stanway's stylish and urbane playing beautifully highlights the highlights of the live show. Similarly, the ending of "Dear Miss Lonely Hearts" is a short, unedited ending, and you can clearly see the difference from the official version. (The official version just patches the 10-second repeat from 2:30 to the cut point to make the rhythm consistent.) The encore is the over 7-minute "Whiskey In The Jar," which concludes the live show with emotion and leaves the listener with a sense of satisfaction that goes beyond the actual playing time. This work, which packages the true GLAND SLAM live show as it is with ultra-high quality stereo line sound source, will make new discoveries the more you listen to it! Although the recording time is a little short at 55 minutes, this 55 minutes will impress not only LIZZY fans but all hard rock fans.
