A gorgeous set of audio + video + tour program of the Cambodian Refugee Relief Concert held in 1979 has been released! A charity concert held at the end of 1979 was held at the Hammersmith Odeon in London for four days, with appearances by Queen, The Clash, THE WHO, Elvis Costello, and others, and became a hot topic at the time. Wings appeared as Otori on the 29th, the final day, and performed a full concert lasting more than 2 hours, ending with not only members of Wings, but also members of THE WHO, LED ZEPPELIN, Elton John, etc. who concluded with Paul's lead. It was a rare event in rock history, with all the members coming together to perform a song specially made for this day. This work is a memorable title that includes not only the full Wings stage, but also the Roquestra in which gorgeous members participated, as well as related footage as well as footage of the 1979 Wings. . First of all, regarding the CD part, this is a complete recording of Wings' stage on December 29, 1979, the day that marked the end of the 1970s as the end of the year approached. Starting with "GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE", it includes a wide range of hard numbers such as "GETTING CLOSER" and "OLD SIAM SIR", which are no longer played from the latest album "BACK TO THE EGG" at the time. Song selection. Paul never dreamed that Wings would follow the path of natural extinction from here, and seems to be enjoying playing with a band that was intended to continue forever. With the appearance of "LAST FLIGHT", the recognition of this tour has increased at once, and the set list has become widely known, but when you look at it again, there are instrumental numbers like "HOT AS SUN" that were not played on stage at the time of the album release. It features many minor songs such as "NO WORDS" and "COOK OF THE HOUSE" sung by Linda, while Billboard No. 1 songs such as "SILLY LOVE SONGS" and "LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAID" are included. I think it's a really drastic selection of songs, leaving out hit songs. In "MULL OF KINTYRE", the bagpipe band takes the stage and overlays the beautiful tone with the band's performance, which is also worth listening to. Also, “WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME” was played regularly on this tour, but that time has passed and it has been removed from the set on this day. What makes this day special above all is the performance by the Roquestra at the end of the concert. As the name suggests, ``ROCKESTRA'' is a coined word that combines rock and orchestra, and each member with their name closes the stage, starting with the song ``ROCKESTRA'' (played twice), which was created for this occasion. Everyone performed songs such as "LUCILLE" by Little Richard, which is probably the starting point for everyone. As the project name suggests, it overwhelms listeners with an extremely thick wall of sound. The bonus track includes “MULL OF KINTYRE”, which was performed live in the studio during a TV appearance on December 10, 1977. The song, which set the single sales record at the time by surpassing the Beatles' ``SHE LOVES YOU,'' was loved by Paul and is still performed on stage in cities where bagpipe bands can be found. It is also noteworthy that the live performance here is the original members of Paul, Linda, and Denny Lane at the time of recording. Next is the video. This work is a valuable record that contains not only related footage but also footage of the 1979 Wings over two DVDs. First of all, Disc 1 contains three slightly different broadcasts of this Roquestra in Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom. There are advantages and disadvantages to image quality, such as clear but grainy, poor outlines but good coloring, etc. Each country has its own characteristics in image quality, so rather than saying which one is the best, I would like you to actually compare them. Masu. Rather, it is the content that distinguishes the broadcasts in each country. In America, a total of 6 songs, including Rokestra, were broadcast on the program "NIGHT FLIGHT." However, the UK version contains a small amount of performance scenes of "GETTING CLOSER" and "ARROW THROUGH ME" that were not recorded in the broadcast in other countries, although this is probably leaked footage. . I can't help but wonder if there is a complete video version, but unfortunately no one has seen it yet. Also, the Japanese broadcast version has Japanese subtitles, which is a good thing. In this way, all three countries' versions, each with their own characteristics, are included. The second half of Disc 1 is a live video of “GOOD NIGHT TONIGHT” broadcast in Sweden. Although the recording location is not specified, it seems to be a live performance in Liverpool on the first day from the video. And includes Buddy Holly Week on September 14, 1979. This is an annual event that seems to be shrinking in size recently, but this year it was held with a large number of guests. This Buddy Holly week includes two versions, the first is a version with only three songs but has good image quality, and the other is a complete recording of "IT'S SO EASY" sung by Paul, although the image quality is inferior. This is a longer recording. Disc 2 of the DVD begins with a documentary of the Rokestra sessions held at Abbey Road Studios on October 3, 1978. In view of the charity concert at the end of the following year, and for recording in "BACK TO THE EGG" which was being recorded, many musicians gathered in the studio, a historic session with Paul as the organizer. When I look around the studio, I can see figures such as the late John Bonham. He is known for his energetic personality, but here he is very calm and waiting for instructions in front of his seniors. The songs are ``ROCKESTRA THEME'' and ``SO GLAD TO SEE YOU HERE'', and it is very clear that the piano, orchestra, guitar, drums, etc. are all working together to complete one song. It's a documentary. I think that Paul, who had a bitter experience with the movie “LET IT BE”, was well aware of this kind of recording, and that a session with unique members gathered together was taken. The next recording is a program called "CELEBRATION" by Granada TV, where you can see coverage of the Liverpool performance to which students from his alma mater were invited, and a small but valuable live video of "GETTING CLOSER". Similarly, on the BBC's "NATIONWIDE" program, you can see live footage of "YESTERDAY" as well as rehearsals for "TWENTY FLIGHT ROCK," "GETTING CLOSER," and "AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN." Furthermore, in the second half, a live video of "GOOD NIGHT TONIGHT" from the Glasgow performance on December 16, 1979 (the day before LAST FLIGHT), which was interviewed by an Italian television station, is recorded along with an interview. The last scene is a rehearsal for a famous performance in Japan. As we all know, it was canceled as a result, but in order to create a new stage for the 1980s, it is easy to imagine that the set list would have been significantly changed even though it had only been a short time since the UK tour. The rehearsal scenes for "ELEANOR RIGBY" and "WITH A LITTLE LUCK" will blow your mind. Shortly after this, he was arrested in Japan, but if this had happened, "WITH A LITTLE LUCK", which had never been performed on stage, would have been performed for the first time in Japan, which is very unfortunate. It won't. After this concert in 1979, Wings was disbanded due to Paul's arrest in Japan, so the Cambodian refugee relief concert included in this work was effectively Wings' last stage. If you think that the final brilliance was such a big flash of light, it greatly suppressed Paul's subsequent activities. His first arrest in 1980 and John's death at the end of the year changed history very significantly. There is no doubt about that. After this, it would take 10 years for Paul to return to the stage in earnest. This work is sure to become a historical work that completely records Wings' last stage. This historic event is recorded in both audio and video, and it is a monument that completely records Wings' 1979 culmination, including the related footage, the "last flight." Comes in a luxurious 4-page digipak with a storage slip case included. Furthermore, this time, a pamphlet replica of the Cambodian Refugee Relief Concert is included in every set. This pamphlet is common to all four days, so it introduces the members who will be performing on all days with photos. Since this is a one-time event, the actual pamphlet is extremely rare, and I'm sure few people have ever seen it. AUDIO DISC ONE HAMMERSMITH ODEON CINEMA LONDON U.K. December 29,1979 01.
